Can we say that Valero is a great fighter because...

he defeated a good champion in Mosquera and has knocked out everybody he's faced? Can we say that he's great simply cause of the ko's and that one win.

Mosquera who I've seen fight only one other time against Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai, in which fight he was the challenger and Nanthachain the challenger having defeatead Lavka Sim and Steve Forbes at 130.

Can we say that Valero is great because he's arguably the best gym fighter in the game today?

Valero needs one marquee fight in the States to solidify himself as a great fighter. A win over Rocky Juarez won't do. It has to be at least a Soto type of fighter.

I've only seen a few of his fights, and they were all against guys I never heard of. Still impressive to see him get the KO's tho. He ain't been around long enough to be great, and I don't even know enough about him to say if he's really good or not. He is dangerous tho. I wanna see him against a Barrios or a Soto. That'd be good ****. Then we'll know if he's ready for Pac or JMM.

I just watched his most recent fight, guy has some horrible defense. He reminds me of a southpaw Mayorga, great power but will never be an elite champion.

I think he is a guy that fights down to his opposition. What's funny is that he looks extremely skilled in his gym wars, a master technician almost and then he faces guys that he doesn't respect in the ring and he just doesn't care.
Against Mosquera he fought very good.

          Very far to FAME

Valero is basically based here in Japan for the past couple of years already. I`ve seen some of his fights and find him too far from champions like PAC, Barrera, Morales or even Guzman. He has power but for SKILLS....I don`t think so. When he fights...his face is so open, when he punch... it`s just a whirling or mean side sway and that makes him vulnerable enough to be hit in the body. In terms of speed...a bit slower than Morales or Barrera and much more to Pacquiao. Stamina...defenitely has no stamina at all and will be slower as the fight went on. He is no match to PACQUAIO. That`s true... VALERO resume is impressive coz he fights less boxers who are just like TRICYCLE Drivers.

People like to knock Valero because of his opposition, but he can punch like a MF and is a genuine threat against anyone he can hit. Hopefully he'll finally get the chance to prove himself in the next year or two.

I'd say Valero has a great chance of beating Pac more than any of the other elites. Pac is easy to hit and likes to trade. This time he won't have the power category in his favor. I think it would be a matter of who lands first. You can say what you want but, he did beat a champion in Mosquera, and showed heart and determination to win. He's got hunger on his side, and as we all know, that can make up for the lack of skill.

He has power no doubt, but he just seems wild. With looping punches. Fighters that are able to survive his pressure and throw straighter punches I feel would beat him. Until he faces of the big names he's still a question mark on how good he really is.

So by all accounts the majority of fans here think that skills-wise Valero is on a Mayorga/Miranada level

                  That's just absurd thinking.

A slicker boxer would expose him this and that. Wasn't Vernon Forrest slick? Wasn't Allan Green somewhat slick and able to expose Miranda for his looping shots?

The thing is he hasn't faced those caliber of fighters to see if he can beat them.
