    i think holyfield used it too...and he punched pretty quick out of it

      He used it from time to time but mainly, he used to tuck his chin into his left shoulder, cross his left arm around his body and use his right arm to block or parry incoming shots.

        Thats actually the philly shell variation of the crossarm defense so technically its still correct

          Technically yes, but we've been talking about Archie Moore-type cross armed defense, which wasn't what Holyfield used most of the time.

            He didnt use the philly variation most of the time either. Usually he was pretty orthodox. He only used it when he was trying to be patient and wait for his opponent to throw

              He used it quite a lot when he was younger, although you're right, he used it a bit less when he got older.

                He got more offensive minded as he grew up realizing he could put just as much hurt on guys as the popular heavyweights getting big money fights.

                  Yeah, he wasn't that much of a defense minded counterpunching fighter when he got older, he became a combination punching offense minded fighter, although he did revert back to a more defense minded approach a few times.

                      So are you going to use the crossarm?? I tried it once for fun but i didnt like it much. You end up taking hard shots on the forearms instead of the triceps.
