If Dawson fights Diaconu the fight will be in Romania, because the Romanian promoter won the purse bid.

However, Dawson would have preferred to vacate the WBC title and to fight Tarver instead, if that fight could be made. But negotiations between Tarver's and Dawson's management have not gone well this week, so now Dawson's people are talking about going over to Romania to defend the WBC title.

I just don't understand the point of it to be honest, ESPECIALLY when it is a smaller country like Romania. I mean, really, who is Romania on an international stage?
      It comes down to money.

The Romanian promoter bid 1.8 million as compared to Shaw's bid of 1.3 million.

That's why the fight will be in Romania - Shaw should have bid more money.

        Thanks!

I actually never knew or inquired as to what a purse bid is or how it worked.

        Hmm, that is interesting.

Why dont you understand that?? I think thats how every champ should do it, if you are world champion you should fight in other countries as well not just your backyard!! I think thats the meaning of WORLDCHAMPION!! People are always bitching if a german champ only fights in his hometown or a british champ, but the american champs always fight in america and its alright or what?? Yeah right! Tell that your grandma!

America is where the money is at. If you don't fight in the U.S, then you won't get the largest amount of money that you could make and you don't get the recognition that you need to make a name for yourself. Only major boxing fans knows who Diaconu is in the U.S. Plain and simple. IMO if Diaconu wants his shot at a title, then he should be willing to come over to America. Especially since he pulled out of the fight the first time and since Dawson IS the champion.

You come across as a naive, silly child sometimes, Kball15.

It's the WBC light heavyweight world title fight. Both fighters are exciting and in their prime - one is a skillful, slick southpaw, and the other is a hard-punching orthodox fighter.

That's true a world champ should fight in any place, but in this case it's more of Gary Shaw being a cheap bastard. A good promoter would not lose a purse bid if his fighter is the champ, simply because the champion gets 60% of the share.

I tell you what, you can also make money in germany or other countries, and nobody in germany knows guys like Pavlik or Dawson, only major boxing fans. Thats because they never fought ion germany, plain and simple. Guys like Byrd or Brewster are well known here in germany cause the fought here a few times.
