There's risks there too. But they are wearing considerably more equipment than just a paper of trunks and an athletic supporter.

I know where your coming from, this applies to all sports... I find it hard to really be fan of anyone or any team because of the money. There is no loyalty in sports anymore, it is all about the money.

I think Sonny summed it up best in a Bronx Tale when he said, "If your dad needs money, go ask Mickey Mantle. See what happens. Mickey Mantle don't care about you. Why care about him?"

and yet suffer career ending injuries as well. I just don't think its wise to say th at boxing is the only sport where you can say someone can get permanently damaged or killed in the ring.

but sonny also said that a working man is a sucker, and it kinda defeats the whole idea melly-mel is trying to present

I agree. Lots of sports you theoretically can. They call race car driving a sport too and there's deaths there too.
But I will say boxing is more risky than many sports.
              But let's not quibble..

but it is true though, you think those fighters you care about give a **** about you? probably not. when they talk to the cameras and say i love my fans, they dont know those people. they love the money that goes in their pockets for ticket sales.

                sonny's right

Without the fans, there is no money to be made. Or do you think athletes would just play for free as grown men?

their is a line though I think at least. Where the money they make is astronomical for the work that they do. I don't care how well Kobe can shoot, Brady can throw or how far A Rod can hit, they make HUGE money for playing a game for a living.

#1 reason why = the media
Sports were a big thing probably up till the late 80's I think. There was still a sense of innocence to it. People felt a real connection to their teams, and guys weren't jumping ship every other season. There was no spygate, crooked refs, rediculous steroid use or leagues that allow ludacris trades to go through. I'm not saying that didn't exist back in the day but certainly not like it goes on today...

                    Now it's a different story...

You have jackass's like LeBron James (from my hometown) saying he intends to be the first Billionaire basketball player. He even drives around here with a license plate that says "KING OF AK" (My city being Akron, OH).

fans is what makes a superstar because their decision, their final say about what place you'll have in their world, is what ultimately counts. but i dont think a guy like tyson really cares about me, or would want to meet me personally because ive been supporting him over the years

it's business to them, to us it's entertainment, but really they are the same thing
