i am so tired of it being about money! i guess i am old in age, and old fashioned, but i come from the school of how it was about hard work, being the best, having respect, and leaving no doubts, and securing yourself among the all time elite. this goes in boxing, and life as well. lessons in life through sports are huge to me. work ethic gets u what you want, and need in life. the money comes , and is great. yet the thirst for greed, and paper is far outshining the more important facets in this sport. what's even worse is alot of young fans i see here, and at fights think $ first just as many of these fighters do, and portray. this is not good for the younger generation and it will hurt this world because it was hard work, and break neck discipline that built this world we live in. this applies to all areas of the world, not just certain areas. nothing should be easy, or handed to you. i hope things can change, and people will wake up, and realize alot of these things are a big part of the decline in fans of this great sport.

Me and my brother had a similar conversation yesterday regarding sports in general. Money has been the single most factor that ruins the sporting aspect of it. Sadly, as you've pointed out, this younger generation only sees things in terms of money and sales.

Know what you mean...
I agree.
Things would be a lot different if, by law, the purses were split 60/40 in favor of the winner. With a subsequent increase in pay based on performance and winning percent.
Can't only blame the fighters, though.
Many fighters have been taken advantage of financially by their handlers and were left, basically, penniless at the end of their careers.
In recent years, fighters have gotten wiser and have chosen to manage their own careers in order to keep more of their earnings, which can be both good and not so good.

I agree with a lot of what you said. The only thing is that boxing is different than other sports. You can get permanently damaged or killed in the ring.
I don't half-blame people for trying to get as much as they can for the risks they take.
I guess in the 70's and such, society's protective shield with everything being dangerous and a health risk wasn't in full effect like it is now.
In a way, some people have become pussified.
The thing that always bothers me about boxing, in other sports the best always play the best and sometimes on a fairly regular basis.
In boxing that rarely happens and when it does the wait is forever for it to finally come to being.
