De La Hoya knows that he'll be able to make bank no mater who he fights, but he also worries about being in crowd pleasing fights and maintaining a legacy.

the person i quoted in the first place idiot which is why i replied in the context of which i did. and how am i generalizing mexican fighters? did i not say "this board"?who said anything about "mexican fighters"???you said he wasnt mexican....just like that......
you're also very ignorant to generalise "mexican fighters" anyway....
oh and i think that mexican americans are surely americans above anything else, however some actions tell you that part of them is proud of their origins....especially a first generation mexican-american like oscar.....

If De La Hoya was serious about fighting Cotto all along he would have chosen him before he chose Mayweather. Remember before when his wife millie or whatever told him not to be fighting no more puerto ricans or whatever. Yall sitting here acting like oscar is some kind of true warrior, when in reality he was chasing the money, the next legitimate fight after Mayweather near his division is Cotto, this is kind of a public ploy which obviously some of you were duped into thinking was actually true.Comment

Yea, he probably is doing it for the money, but if Oscar thinks the money is good with Cotto, why did PBF say otherwise? If De La Hoya was serious about fighting Cotto all along he would have chosen him before he chose Mayweather. Oscar could fight ME and it would do as million plus..so its a mute point.Yep, and what do most over the hill fighters with nothing to lose do? Fight for the money, and now I'm just gonna repeat what Sin City said, Oscar, who is obviously smart when it comes to this, chose Cotto because he brings enough to the table, while PBF said he wouldn't fight Cotto because of the money.Comment

Because in some ways its true and some ways it isnt. Cotto at this point is still mostly a puerto rican drawn in new york and he isnt exactly a superstar at this point outside of the sport. PBF and his advisors (Haymon/Ellerbe) likely felt Cotto could become even bigger later on in the year. However, Cotto is the biggest fight in the division that PBF ruled, therefore to me, the money shouldnt have mattered, however im not the one taking the punches, so i cant sit here and tell another fighter what to do, but seriously, PBF should have just ****ing fought him.
On the flipside, De La Hoya could easily play up the Mexican/Puerto Rican rivalry, so for him, the money is big just based on the fact that you have 2 latino fighters from opposing countries squaring off, so for him, its a little easier to market in that regard. You see what im saying?Comment
