But instead of fighting his mandatory Diaconu, by then fully recovered and ready Diaconu, in early 2008 Dawson decided to fight Glen Johnson. The WBC granted an exception to Dawson and let him avoid Diaconu for one fight and keep his title, and Diaconu fought Henry for the interim title instead.

Now, Dawson is expected to fight Diaconu, but he is reportedly in negotiations for a fight with Tarver in October. But who knows, he may instead decide to go to Romania and face Diaconu, we'll know within a week or two.

Dont try and put the blame on Dawson for fighting Glen, Diaconu was the one who scrapped the fight because of an "Injury", he then went ahead to fight in April after his injury healed for the Interim title which i dont understand why!! But now the fight can be made but if the Tarver goes through then i would expect Dawson to go for that fight because its a bigger fight.

I agree, what Dawson is trying to do is fight the bigger names so he can get himself some recognition. He has barely had the title for 2 years and people are already complaining about him not fighting mandotories. He only has 26 fights as well. When he fought Epifanio Mendoza on showtime last september, Diaconu pulled out becuase an injury to hand in training. Tunney stated that Diaconu was ready in november, but how can you expect a guy to fly over to his opponents home country only 2 months after he fights to defend his title? When Dawson fought Jesus Ruiz on showtime on June 9th, Paul Briggs was offered a shot to challenge for the title so its not Dawson that are choosing these last minute replacements.

On topic, this is a great fight for Dawson and for boxing. Diaconu has the look of credentials and will bring Dawson a challenge. Hes also capable of upsetting Dawson if Dawson is not on his best game. I would personally would rather see Dawson fight Tarver first, then take on his mandotories. Diaconu pulled out the first time, so he should be able to wait. In the process, he should be trying to get a fight with Glen Johnson so he could make a good name for himself as well.

Thats why i disagree with Tunney, He was trying to imply that Dawson didnt want to fight Diaconu for some reason when all the reason why the fight didnt happen had everything to do with Diacanu/promoter and nothing to do with dawson.

Dawson is wounded right now, if Diaconu can apply pressure effectively he can win. Not saying he would but he can. Hopefully Romania has fair officiating.

I still think Dawson beats him without too much trouble, Dawson getting in there with Glen johnson is like an investment in Dawson's career he would only get better, I dont think he would meet anyone who would push him better than Glen johnson push him that night.

Yes i agree. Johnson really brought the heat on Dawson and is really a high volume pressure fighter. Diaconu from what i seen in the Henry fight, gives his opponents room to box and is not a volume puncher. Diaconu is some sort of a boxer that comes foward at times. It was also the first time that Dawson has really been pressured like that. It was a learning experience.

Although I think Dawson won the Johnson fight clearly, he paid a heavy toll to get that win. He was not ready for that kind of fire power.

After the fight he didn't seem confident when asked about a rematch. Dawson is guy who reveals a lot of vulnerabilities in post-fight interviews, and he revealed some after that one.

In that sense, I feel he is vulnerable.
