I think he could easily surpass Floyd. Cotto is willing to fight the best. Something Floyd never did.

        at 147 yes...

overall in their careers no...cotto still has a long way to go.

but at 147 he would have beaten (except williams) ALL of the top welterweights...

he's beaten mosley, judah, quintana, margarito (assuming he wins), de la hoya (mattering on how fresh de la hoya looks)...

who has mayweather beat at welterweight? judah?

cotto would have beaten all the TOP welterweights...

in terms of career though mayweather has a huge lead still...

I would hold Cotto higher as a boxer, personally.

But the style and hype surrounding Money will be hard to overshadow.

Thats not an ish stain on Mayweathers boxers its exposivo all over his jock. Mayweather is probably the most gifted fighter of this era but he never fought the best. He picks his fights very carefully. He ducked too many fighters to name and he went after the ones he knew he could beat like the turtle Baldomir, Over the hill Oscar and no defense Hatton. I give him cred for taking on Hatton and Oscar but come one he couldnt even clean out his own division. Cotto still has alot to prove himself. He has already fought better opposition that Mayweather but it doesnt make him better. WHy cant you toolbags get over this fight. ITs gonna happen in late 09 or early 2010, jsut be patient and wait. LEt Cotto try and hopefully establish himself and the P4P king then Floyd will come out and fight.

He surpasses him in facing better (welterweight) opposition. He does not surpass him in talent. He should be higher in the rankings though cuz he's actually fighting the best ( or better comp )

Cotto will have a better legacy over all in the long run being that he actually owns a pair of testicles. But beating Margarito and Delahoya doesn't put him past Mayweather in terms of achievements it will just make Mayweather look like more of a *****. Cotto hasn't ducked anyone ever that's a certified fact. Yeah *****'s will say, "He ducked him at 140". But what they really mean is "Floyd said he is too green" which translates in there Mayweather loving brains as Cotto ducked him. I don't get how you can confuse the two. If Cotto beats Tony, Oscar and keeps dealing out ass whippings to all comers in the entertaining/brutal fashion that he usually does it in people will forget Floyd existed.

i voted no bcause it is very difficult to quantify greatness when comparing someone who has been a five division champ vs someone who has been a 2 division champ although Cotto has possibly beaten a supererior caliber of opponents. I would put them on the same level
