I guess some people can's just live without Floyd. Whether it's the haters or nut warmers. He's retired! It's probably best to move on and talk about the guys that are still in the sport.Comment

I think missing both Casamayor and Freitas is at least somewhat excusable in this instance.
Here are the reasons:
Floyd stated after the Chavez fight that he "couldn't make 130 anymore".
He already beat Diego Corrales at 130, which beat Freitas and had a nearly even trilogy of with Casamayor (even though Casamayor won out).
Castillo actually ended up beasting Casamayor, and Freitas actually ended up on the bottom of the heap when it comes to those four great fighters. Floyd Mayweather moved up from 130 to 135 to face Castillo, who I would contend is the best fighter Floyd has ever fought.
Finally, neither Casamayor or Freitas had really established themselves as a true powerhouse when Floyd moved up. Floyd fought his first lightweight fight in April of 2002, and Casamayor and Freitas first squared off in early 2002. I'm not 100% sure, but I would guess that Floyd had already signed to fight Castillo by the time Casamayor and Freitas had squared off. Both Casamayor and Freitas were titleholders, but as far as their record goes, none of their wins on their resume really turned out to be something that is remembered.
But... the caveat of this post is that I wasn't around when all this was happening, so I obviously don't have the a complete understanding of the circumstances that were going on back then.
Mostly, the point of this post was to say that I think that moving up to fight Jose Luis Castillo was probably a much more dangerous fight than staying at 130 and fighting either Joel Casamayor (in possibly the most boring fight of either's career) or Acelino Freitas.Comment
