Hatton Approached By Pacquiao, De La Hoya: Tells Oscar No

Ricky Hatton has been approached for bouts with Manny Pacquiao and with Oscar De La Hoya. De La Hoya was set to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch on September 20. The fight was scrapped after Mayweather announced his retirement last Friday. Hatton was approached to fill the void, but his father, Ray Hatton, tells BBC Sport that a De la Hoya fight was turned down because Hatton would need more time to prepare for such a fight. [details]

I just gained a lot of respect for Hatton. He knows he will get his head knocked off for tons of money and has decided against it.

Hatton can't fight De La Hoya, he's too big. Ricky should have rejected the fight. Good decision.

IBO 140lb champion Ricky Hatton will not step in for retired Floyd Mayweather in a big money bout against his promoter Oscar de la Hoya in September. Hatton's father and business manager told BBC Sport that "The Hitman" is focused on a November fight with IBF jr welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi. Other names bandied about in the media as Oscar's new opponent include Winky Wright and the winner between Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito. An announcement is expected this week from Golden Boy regarding Oscar's plans. Team Hatton, meanwhile, is relishing the possibility of a clash with Manny Pacquiao, should he win the WBC 135lb crown against David Diaz.

Nice probably a good decision by Hatton. Oscar is just too big and if Laczano hurt him, Oscar would seriously hurt him. Plus there are better fights for Oscar that are actually closer to his size anyway.

This raise another question...Why wont Oscar fight Winky? That would be a good fight IMO.

Hatton and De La Hoya wouldnt be that bad of a fight - I mean cmon look at what little stevie forbes did to De la Hoya. DLH looked pretty beat up.

Maybe since the Lazcano fight of getting stunned and almost knocked out Hatton wants to fight smaller guys or guys that arent known for knockout power like Malignaggi?
