I much prefer the Pavlik option, since at the end of the day Jones will still be there afterwards for Calzaghe if he really wants him.

I am however beginning to wonder how keen the Pavlik camp can realistically be about putting him in with Joe. This is a guy with an 0 who is starting to look like the real deal at MW and I don't see why they'd want him to risk it.

Unless I am underestimating Calzaghe's popularity and fame in the US, surely there are even more lucrative fights out there for Pavlik against established US fighters like Winky Wright? I don't really know that much about the likely PPV outcomes of such fights so perhaps someone could tell me?

The boxing fans at the Pavlik - Lockett fight may have cheered when Kellerman floated the idea of a Calzaghe fight to Pavlik, but presumably they are fans of his and are certain that he would win. I'm not so sure Loew, Arum and Pavlik himself would be so certain, and would HBO and even America itself want to risk one of their only remaining P4P guys, who is going to be a huge star if he keeps the wins coming, losing a little of his sparkle by losing to a European fighter like Calzaghe. Pavlik himself said no-one knows who the euros are, so how would it look in the states if he lost to one?

I'm not sure this fight carries very good risk/ reward for Kelly, unless I am wrong and a Calzaghe fight is financially the biggest he can make right now.
You know what? I think you are a great poster. I've talked trash to you on here before. But you're a good dude.
Zags better take the smart fight, at this time. Jones.

Sometimes I wonder if they're talking about the same Calzhage.

Joe is NOTHING...NOBODY...Pavlik would lace that fraud.

I've seen enuff of both fighters to pick Pavlik by brutal KO.

Joe has NOTHING to keep Kelly off him. Those gay-ass karate chops sure as hell won't do it.

This fight won't happen anyway..ya'll will kiss Joe's ass and call him great even if he rematches Tokker Pudwell

              SO WHY RISK IT?

Thanks sweetpea. I realise my pro-Calzaghe stance can sometimes seem unreasonable, but what can I say? I don't intend to offend anyone or anything, I just think Joe's really an excellent boxer. Thanks for the kind words.

Anyway, I'm not sure I understand your post. You think Jones is the smart fight? You think Pavlik will beat Joe? Personally I would feel confident with Joe going into either of those two fights, probably Pavlik more than Jones because with a guy like Jones, who was once so great, you can never know if he might just do something incredible one more time, whereas I see Pavlik as a fairly definite 'known' if you see what I mean. Either way, if I'm honest, I'm pretty sure Jones is too old now, but I guess you never know.

The one fight I see as genuinely dangerous for Calzaghe is Chad Dawson, a guy who right now outmatches Joe for speed and power, and can also really box. I have my doubts about Dawson's tactical game, but like I've posted before, speed, power and boxing ability are good advantages to have.

So dude, how come you think Jones is the smart fight? Is that what you meant?
