I'm not saying Pavlik isn't the "Real Deal", as you put it, but you can't really use the dismantling of Lockett as proof. The guy was outsized by maybe 20%. Pavlik is huge for a mw. He had like 4" height, and I dunno how much reach on the guy, much bigger frame, just bigger, period. And Pavlik, to his credit, handled the guy just like he should've. Broke him down quick and efficiently without taking chances or showboating. But like I said, this isn't really a good measuring stick.
I just realized why all the Pavlik haters are coming out...

Pavlik just worked on some new things in there. Lockett was not a big challenge, so a fight like that can give Pavlik room to try some things differently.
I like how Pavlik just takes what is offered or forces what is not given to him. Cover your face, he'll just pound on your forehead, temple and body. Sometimes he will just thread the needle. We saw some of that in the Taylor 2 fight, but it is becoming more apparent now.
I give Lockett a lot of credit for remaining game right till the end. He was taking a pounding but still kept throwing. He was over matched but showed a heart of a lion. Pavlik is still evolving as a fighter and he has not reached his prime yet, he is still learning on the job. He has shown us a lot of different approaches to his game in the last year.
I have a feeling he will be a force for quite a while.Last edited by deanrw; 06-09-2008, 01:51 PM.Comment

It's because this dude is now more than ever the REAL DEAL. His demolition of Lockett proves he is not some pretender. Not cuz Lockett is great, but because he's not terrible, but Kelly made him look absolutely AWFUL, proving Kelly is in that truly elite class of champions today. He is finally gettin attention, from both fans like me and from the haters like Ultimateboxa and his lackies who don't recognize a legitmate entertainer when he's punching their favorite fighter right in the face. All the hate proves is that Pavlik matters, for better or worse(obviously I believe it to be for the better) Bad publicity is better than no publicity, so thank you Ultimateboxa for doing as much as anyone to get Kelly's name out there for discussion. You're more of a blessing than I realized.Comment

....Kelly is becoming a complete fighter and is still improving. Steward was dead on in his assesment. I don't want to see Pavlik fight Joe as I like both guys and would much rather see him fight Abraham if he gets by Miranda again.Comment

lockett was robbed. i demand a rematch
he only needed 1 more knee to complete the finalized plan.
Damn you Enzo! Damn you to hell!Comment

infact other than liking his performances i dont care either way but the win over lockett proves nothing.
the 2 wins over taylor prove it...not lockett...that was a subpar opponent at best.
His mandatory challenger...
we all knew lockett was going to get owned in there...it was just a matter of how many rounds it would take to do it in.Comment

Nobody said the victory itself was impressive. Lockett is a chump, I never disputed it. But the manner in which Pavlik achieved victory shows that he is light years beyond middle of the road contenders like Lockett, that is the impressive part. It leaves no doubts as to the tier of competition Kelly deserves to compete amongst, even if he does fight a nobody like Lockett every now and againComment
