How and the HELL was that considered a robbery
My scorecard was 116-111 because I had it 8-3-1 for Montiel. I only gave Gorres rounds 2,5,8 and round 9 was even. You have the 2 point deductions so normally it would be 117-109 or 116-110 whoever you gave round 9 to, but still how the hell do people consider that a robbery. Montiel pretty much busted him up and was blocking most of Gorres punches with his gloves. He also threw the way better punches.
Though after watching this fight, Castillo, and Maldanado, I've come to the terms that Montiel would not beat Mijares. Not even close. He's way to slow on foot, Gorres' jab was giving him major problems. Mijares has a big height advantage. Montiel also leaps foward with his punches that basically screams "Hit me in the face please. I'm wide open"
Montiel has good handspeed on the inside, but Mijares constantly moving and throwing 1-2's in his face and not being in the pocket too often (though Gorres did somewhat fine in there) would give Montiel major hell and he'd lose a wide UD.
I think he might be able to beat Donaire though. Donaire doesn't have nearly as good as a jab. He has good defense for blocking hooks and if Montiel keeps plotting foward he might get to him. He wouldn't get to Mijares though.
Overall, I can't believe this was even called a close decision let alone a robbery. Montiel clearly won.
