Winner of Margarito vs. Cotto should become RING Champion

No because Margarito is ranked 5 by the ring. He would need to rematch Mosley because Mosley is ranked 2 (for good reason too. Not because of Golden Boy bias you ****ers).

The RING can easily boost Margarito in ranking to 2nd or 3rd to solve the issue.
As it stands now he's really no worse than either Williams or Quintana. He dropped a really close decision to Williams who lost a lopsided one to Quintana who got blown out by Cotto. Mosley lost a close one as well to Cotto so the top three should be Cotto then Mosley and Margarito(IBF champ as well in reality despite vacating to fight Cotto).

The RING title being up for grabs makes sense as the winner of this fight will be widely recognized as the best welterweight in the world bar none.

This will be a good test of Ring's fairness. Bottom line is if Margarito is #5 then it can't be for the title, which is a shame because he was #1 for years. The title should remain vacant. At SMW it did so for several years in the 90s.

I think it speaks volumes however that GBP have recently pushed the idea of a Cotto Mosley 2 fight, which presumably if it were to happen could be for the Ring title. One might even think they knew Mayweather was going to retire.

No doubt in my mind though, if there were any fairness in the world, Cotto Marg would be for the title. Sadly, there isn't and I don't want Ring to break its rules just to keep boxing fans happy, the Ring linear titles are the best we have and they have to remain credible.

The Ring is not going to just boost Margarito to #2 or #3 just to fill their vacancy. There has to be some kind of performance in the ring, not "Cotto is fighting Margarito and it would nice to make this for the vacant title". It wouldn't be right, if they were gonna put Margarito that high they should've done it already, like say after the Cintron rematch.

Unless Williams and Quintana fight really terrible tomorrow and both drop below Margarito as a consequence, I don't see it happening.
