He is a beast and I do admire that he comes to fight, but so do Danny Williams and Michael Gomez and I don't see anyone thinking they're going to be winning any world titles any time soon.

I just don't see this fight as being all that competitive, and can't understand why anyone would give Margarito a chance.

As an afterthought, boy am I gonna look dumb if Tony wins haha!

I doubt whether those other two boxers you mention come anywhere near Margarito when it comes to conditioning, dedication, and workrate. Well at least I know that Williams doesn't.

why do people think that people think Tony is some incredible elite boxer? no one thinks that. Margarito fans know what he's capable of and what he isn't. the man comes to fight and thats what he does. no one here is saying Tony is going to outbox Cotto or Mayweather. but everyone knows Margo is going to throw everything he has at them.

There are plenty of Marg fans that think he is an elite boxer. And there are plenty that think if he throws everything he has at Cotto he will win.

Margarito's biggest strengths are the fact he apparently cannot be hurt, let alone KOd and the fact that he is a heavy puncher with a high workrate. He will come after you all night long, take whatever you throw at him and if you let him hit you, you will be hurt. Its a recipe for success against almost any boxer out there, as Margarito has proved time and time again.

His only really bad loss is his one to Paul Williams, in what was basically a style matchup so bad for Tony I'm surprised he took the fight. He was too slow to hit Williams and got embarassed, but even in that fight he finally caught up with him and handed out some pretty heavy punishment, but it was a case of little, too late. His loss to Santos was a cuts stoppage in a fight that he might easily have won and the others came when he was 18 and younger, so not too much should be read into them.

He is a threat to Cotto because despite what his fans say, Cotto is no boxer, like Tony he wins his fights by breaking down his opponents with concussive blows from close and medium range. Though Cotto will try to back off Tony and box him, at some point he has to get close enough to hit him and the punishment these two dish out virtually guarantees that in the late rounds they will be tired and there will be extended stretches of them standing toe to toe and punching. Whether Cotto's chin is 'suspect' or not, it is very unlikely to be as strong as Margarito's and there is a huge possibility that this scenario favours Margarito to win by KO.

Margarito definitely has a chance in this fight, so big a chance in fact that I am unable to pick a winner. It might turn out that Cotto really is the superstar talent everyone thinks he is and takes Margarito apart, but if he isn't it could be a very different story. The only thing I am certain of is that this will be one of the toughest fights in either fighters career.
