You can see how many times they fought the champions to become champions. They aren't the kind of guys who chicken out. You can just blame JBC instead.
Then why are they defending thier titles with unrated fighters?

These fighters are ranked by the WBC and the WBA. Naito just defended against Pong.

Cool-Jupiter, who do you think won Pong-Naito 4? I scored it 116-112 for Naito myself... I don't see how that was a draw. I'm usually big on clean shots too. Well I am, Pong just landed too few of them and Naito was landing good shots too

Naito will defend his title against countryman Tomonobu Shimizu who is not even rated in the top ten and has a record of 13-2 with 5 knockouts.

Naito vs. Pong a hundrenth time is ******ed.

It's a showcase bout first of all and he gets an optionary defenses until his mandatory is up. Did you see who is Co-main eventing that card?

Takefumi Sakata. Sakata vs Naito 2 makes a lot more money in japan then Donaire vs Naito/Sakata ever would.

So japan does not recognize the IBF and cannot unify but regardless of that... is nonito donaire not the number 1 ranked contender by the wbc?? why cant they just fight the flash without the flash's title being on the line?

**** is Nonito still doing at that weight anyways. Move it up Nonito, to get some big bouts in some higher weight classes.

I suppose so, but they would make a lot more money fighting each other then fighting Donaire. Also Donaire should just wait, fight someone like Pong or some **** and then fight the winner.

The whole point of the article and thread is that boxing insiders see donaire as the king of the division and would wipe the floor with both naito and sakata, the top contenders. What the **** would he waste his time with pong for??

Because he only ruled the division for 10 years and had seventeen title defenses. Not a bad name to have on your resume. Much better then Maldonado

You wait until they fight each other and then take the winner. That way you don't have to make two trips to japan. Also Naito's very weird style could throw Donaire off. Donaire would beat the **** out of Sakata though.

Yay my 2nd post on the forum

Chups - Naito is defeding his title against WBC#14 ranked fighter Tomonobu Shimizu, who is also a reigning national champion, and Sakata against Hiroyuki Hisataka who is ranked at No.3 by the WBA. Both challengers may not be highly evaluated, but they are both good fighters. Good enough to get world title shot. Shimizu is known by Japanese crowd as a handsome guy, but many Japanese fight fans recognize him as a cool-headed and skilled fighter. Hisataka has a clear speed advantage over WBA champion Sakata. If he can continue to dance in the ring and give Sakata a counterpunching beating throughout the bout, then there are good chances that he'll capture the WBA belt off from Sakata.

warp1432 - Big thanks for your reply! Well, I saw it 114-114. My impression was that Wonjongkam's punches thrown/punches landed ratio was slightly higher than Naito's, but all the rounds after the 4th round were dominated by Naito who was clearly busier. That was a tough bout to judge. Those who prefer big shots would have been in favor of Naito, and those who like solid and stable fighters would have been in favor of Wonjongkam. The decision was pretty controversial in Japan. Some said Naito won and some said the winner was Wonjongkam. By the way, do you live in Japan? I live in Tokyo.

As I said in my previous post, I'd like to see the flyweight division in action. Yep, Donaire has a good possibility of cleaning house of the world flyweight category by simply beating all opposition in his way. It sure is a shame that Naito and Sakata can't fight Donaire, but it's not their fault. Donaire is just unlucky. Too bad the flyweight division isn't active, but don't take it out on Japanese champions. This country is just too stubborn. I wish some other foreign pressure punched the officials of the JBC in the head and make them open the door to the WBO and IBF for the sake of fight fans across the globe.
