IF MIGUEL COTTO beats MARGARITO... He's a HOFer

Beatin Marg makes him the real WW champ, but not a HOF fighter just yet. He's just gettin into his prime. He's gotta sustain success in big fights for a few more years before he becomes a HOF guy. He takes a big step toward that if he can win over Marg but that on top of his other accomplishments don't quite make him an ATG imo. He's on his way tho.Comment

I would hold off on the Hall of Fame talk if and when he beats Margarito AND Mayweather. That guarantees it. We still don't know how good a lot of fighters are on his resume. The best was Shane Mosley and he was past it. Zab Judah? Seriously, what has this guy done aside go 1-1 with Cory Spinks?
With that said, I think you guys underestimate Cotto's body of work at 140. In fact, one could say he fought the best opposition out of everyone at 140 at that time. Floyd, Hatton, Tszyu, etc. Sure Ricky has a win over Kostya but look at all the guys Cotto fought. Some weren't easy but the list is impressive. He seems to be doing the same thing at welter. Some aren't gonna be easy (see Mosley and probably Margarito as well) but if he keeps winning, the question won't be Hall of Fame but how great is he?Comment

As if Mayweather is going to pose THAT much of a threat to Cotto. Mayweather has no power and a great defense thats why he maintains his current self proclaimed status. As far as boxing skills you guys overrate him so much. Boxing is about echanging blows and evading your oppositons at the same tme keeping distance when needed and coming in when you have too. mayweather sits back takes shots and runs with an occassional pot shot thrown in. he never wins the good exchanges De La Hoya made him look bad sometimes and hatton made him look weak by out muscling him. Cotto has a little bit of everything and can **** with anybody at the WW division.
Mayweather Poses no real threat. I gaurantee Mayweather has no chance of really Hurting him or knocking him out. Did you see De La Hoyas face after the Forbes fight in comparison to the Mayweather fight ??
He was exposed in both the De La Hoya and Hatton fight thats why people now doubt him. If he destroyed Hatton and DLH than people wouldnt give Cotto the time of day with saying he could step in the ring with Mayweather.
So what if Forbes messed up Oscar's face more than Floyd...hell...David Estrada was hurting Shane more than Cotto..
Mayweather had Oscar's knees buckling in the 5th and 11th rounds..Forbes never once buckled him.
The Oscar that Floyd fought at 154 would have KO'd Cotto..Marge too..
Floyd has more than enuff power to hurt..even stop Cotto..
Cotto is so overrated it's not even funny anymore..
He hit Shane with everything but the kitchen sink AND STILL COULDN'T HURT HIM..
We saw Shane hurt in his PRIME by Forrest..Cotto couldn't hurt a past-it 36 y/o Mosley.Comment

I give Cotto a slight edge against Margarito simply because he can adapt a little better than his opponent. I love Tony but I wasn't completely bowled over by his stoppage of Cintron. He's been at 147 since he was 18 and prior to that bout, it was starting to show. He's always gotten off to slow starts but he's lost a couple miles on his fastball. The Margarito of a few years ago was absolutely frightening.
Either way, a win over both would guarantee him the Hall.Comment

Only a damn fool would say Hatton and Oscar exposed Floyd..Somebody get this scab some sense..LOL

Couple this with Oscar's stamina issues and I find it very difficult to believe he can defeat a Puerto Rican who would love nothing more than to one-up Tito, take hold of his country forever and make himself a mega-star in the process by defeating Oscar. And I don't think he stops a hungry-ass Mexican, a former sparring partner who - in true Mexican fashion - would fight twelve hard rounds against a guy who can manage eight, tops. No way.
And finally, this idea that Cotto is overrated because he couldn't hurt Shane is absolutely, ****ing ridiculous. Shane Mosley has one of the best chins in the game, you better ask somebody. Please note that Vernon Forrest is the ONLY dude who truly hurt Shane in his career and he STILL managed to get up and go twelve full rounds after that near disaster! Are you kidding me? Talk about horrible examples. This is a guy who leaped from lightweight to welter and took a prime Oscar's shots like they were breakfast. And moved up to 154 to boot! Think for a second.Comment

That fight was a tune-up before Margarito. Many fighters on Cotto's resume are tough, competitive, and difficult opponents & the fact that he is fighting a dangerous fighter like Margarito( Who Floyd & Shane both turned down for 8 million) further shows he is going after the best competition. Once again some Floyd fans are not giving Cotto full credit just as some Cotto fans don't give Floyd credit. Then again they done need anyone here's credit.Comment
