I wonder if anyone takes burner seriously, this guy used to post on esb but after getting his fake ass owned one too many times he decided to leave, he can't make a top 20 all time p4p list to save his life without copying.

Who wins a fight between Carmen Basilio and Ricky Hatton? At welterweight, both are 5'6, both come forward, it would be a fight.

Basilio was involved in more Ring Magazine FOTY's than anyone else I can remember, a total of five FOTY's.

      Basilio stops Johnny Saxton

It definitely would be an action match. Since Hatton struggles at 147 and Basilio became a middleweight champion, I'd have to give him the edge.

I gurantee at least 80% of the people that voted have never seen Basillio fight.

Exactly, Ricky's style is based on being stronger than his opponent and "bullying them". You are bullying Basillio. A battle of wills is always exciting though.

Gavilan actually beat Basilio, providing another example of a boxer-type fighter who bested Basilio.

I've seen Basilio fight quite a few times on ESPN Classic, Basilio can bring it. His problem was that he was not defensively sound. As a result he would swell incredibly and cut. I recall in the rematch with Robinson that Basilio had ducked down and caught an uppercut to the eye that caused his eye to balloon. Fighting Robinson, even the diminished Robinson he contested with, without your left eye for 15 rounds takes some serious determination.

The one thing Basilio would have going for him would be his physical strength, but Baldomir showed that that isn't enough alone to beat Mayweather.

Basilio's best wins at welterweight were against a tough guy named Tony Demarco and Johnny Saxton, a mob-managed slickster who engaged in more fixed fights than Butterbean.

                Demarco is no Mayweather.

As tough as Basilio was, one thing that can't be ignored is that abundance of losses Basilio accrued at 147, largely to forgotten fighters. I haven't seen those fights, so I have to go by press reports. Here is one I found from his loss to Billy Graham from Associated Press.

"The 30-year old New Yorker, a masterful boxer, had no trouble in outscoring the willing but outclassed Basilio from start to finish. Graham, a dancing speedster, pumped tantalizing left jabs into Basilio's face until old cuts in Carmen's eyebrows oozed blood. Basilio's face was crimson from Graham's rasping right hand punches and straight lefts."

That doesn't inspire me to give Basilio the edge here. I'd go with Mayweather by decision. Mayweather wouldn't knock Basilio out, I don't think.
Good post. I have a list of fighters that I believe would have given Floyd hell:

                SRR at WW
                Thomas Hearns at WW
                SRL at WW
                Aaron Pryor at JWW
Roberto Duran at LW to WW
Pernell Whitaker at LW to WW
                etc

Carmen Basilio is not on that list.

I wouldn't favor Floyd in any of these fights per se, at best some are 50/50 possibly depending on what age he is fighting these guys and what class. I would find it hard to put my money on Floyd against any of these guys for any less then 3 to 1 though to risky.

I do know i would pay money to see him fight all those cats though to see what would happean for real.
