For the record, I actually can think Floyd has a good shot at beating Basillo.

12 or 15 rounds, i think Floyd could beat him but it would have to look like the Baldomir fight though he would just win and get out of there, no action because there is no way he is hurting Basilio. I also doubt Basilio would be able to knock him out unless it was a 15 rounder and Floyd completely gassed out in 13-15.

The Onion Farmer was a very tough customer. Basilio had a bullying style, was always in great shape and was a deceptively good puncher. He was one of only two fighters who had knocked down Kid Gavilan. You don't know Kid Gavilan down if you can't punch decently.

Basilio's best wins at welterweight were against a tough guy named Tony Demarco and Johnny Saxton, a mob-managed slickster who engaged in more fixed fights than Butterbean.

              Demarco is no Mayweather.

As tough as Basilio was, one thing that can't be ignored is that abundance of losses Basilio accrued at 147, largely to forgotten fighters. I haven't seen those fights, so I have to go by press reports. Here is one I found from his loss to Billy Graham from Associated Press.

"The 30-year old New Yorker, a masterful boxer, had no trouble in outscoring the willing but outclassed Basilio from start to finish. Graham, a dancing speedster, pumped tantalizing left jabs into Basilio's face until old cuts in Carmen's eyebrows oozed blood. Basilio's face was crimson from Graham's rasping right hand punches and straight lefts."

That doesn't inspire me to give Basilio the edge here. I'd go with Mayweather by decision. Mayweather wouldn't knock Basilio out, I don't think.

This time I agree with you. Basilio is underrated as a welterweight champion. But I don't see anything he has that Floyd couldn't deal with. Basilio was tenacious, but lacked the KO power of fighters like Cotto, Margarito, Judah, etc.

He also didn't have the accuracy of those fighters. Basilio's style was to get close, dig his head into their chests and throwing to the body. He would have a hard time putting leather on Mayweather.

His wins over Gavilian were better then those, weren't they?
