Bernard Hopkins' record outside the states 1-0-1

People overlook the home advantage part of boxing.

Americans get it their own way, what would happen if they were the ones travelling from their own comfort zone around the world to fight?

Not enough is made of this. Lets look at Bernard Hopkins for example, He decisioned some 8-8-1 bum in Paris and got a draw against a very unlucky Segundo Mercado who knocked Hopkins flat on his ass twice.

What happens when americans have crossed the boarder to fight?

Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy and Nigel Benn vs Gerald Mcclellan comes to mind...

I'm pretty sure most experts buy the excuse about the extreme altitude getting to Hopkins. I also heard most people scored it for Hopkins despite the knockdowns. I have it somewhere and need to score it. Before you go any further, have you scored that fight yourself? Show us your card since you posted the thread.

I take it you never saw the Mercado fight?

First of all, Hopkins deserved the decision. Or did it not strike you as odd that he went and fought in his opponent's backyard, got dropped TWICE and STILL got a draw? That means he was ****ING ROBBED.

Hopkins dropped Mercado twice (at least) as well but every time he dropped him, it was ruled a slip. Second, Hopkins was gassed by the middle rounds, unable to adjust to the high altitude. And he still put it on Mercado. Except the judges - like the ref- ****ted on him and he got a draw instead of a win. In the rematch, he beat that azz until the ref saved Mercado.

This seems like another UK V US kind of thread to me. I'm not going to get involved in it.

The fight with Mercado was dope. And I, just like the announcers, had Hopkins winning.

It's the only time Hopkins was ever dropped in his career, he did look a weaker then I've ever seen him, so the high altitude may have effected him (he didn't arrive in the country long enough to adjust, according to Hopkins). Regardless though, it was a good fight, and B-hop destroyed him in the rematch.

                    Exactly.

His opponent wasn't great, as he clearly destroyed him in the rematch. So are you agreeing with me that the fact he fought in a different country effected his performance?
