** Fair enough. The truth more complicated than what I tweaked.

I can't say why Floydy chose to take short money against the Great Gatti instead of bigger money in a unified super title fight against Judah. What the hell was he thinking when he took 3 million to Mitchell's 100 grand to fight in an Oregan backwater other than this is easy money?

I think Floydy knows he's overmatched physically at the weight. He can get away with this against an old, slow journeyman Baldy, and controversially eke out a decision over an older Oscar with his skill set, but he's skating on thin ice and he knows it.

Might as well big himself up while he's got more public recognition and money the past two fights than his entire career combined. I doubt we will see him after this year or the next.

Gatti is a very famous and loved fighter, I think that's why he was fighting him, also he knew he would look spectacular, whereas while Judah was not going to be a walk in the park showing off combos. In terms of making more money in his following fights, Gatti made a lot of sense. Mitchell was clearly a tune-up, let the body grow in the weight fight, in fact even against Judah, Mayweather did not gain a single pound from the weigh in. Which brings me randomly to the point that Hatton-Mayweather at 140 before Mayweather filled up to come on fight night at 150 would have been a different fight (maybe same outcome, but surely a different fight). Consider also how Hatton alleged hip problems reduced his mobility.

A lot of people are very disappointed with this part of his career, but to me the worse part were exactly the fights between Castillo 2 and Judah. In that sequence the best version of Mayweather was matched against a bunch of inferior fighters. His best opponent from age 25 to 29 was Corley... now, that's sad. I know he had a few problems in those years (adapting to new trainers, charges), but it's still sad, and being suspended from boxing or a detached retina are much more digestible reasons for me to endure the “loss” of the best years of a great fighter.

On the other hand Zoo was inactive for most of that time, Arum would not let a green Cotto nowhere near anyone of Mayweather's caliber, and Hatton needed “a couple more fights”. The reality of what happened is to blame on most parties involved, not just one, as it is usually the case.

Mayweather should not fight at 147, his right weight was at 140, where he could have stayed and dominate for a long time. The reason he moved up is once again $$$, mostly under the name of O$car.

I think his skills and intensity in training are stuff from the past, with respect to his boxing brain he really is a man among boys in today's boxing. Because of this I like his chances against any of these big welterweights. All the trash talk from his family on how skills and smarts win fights is annoying but they do have a major point. No fighter out there is as smart and complete as he is, ”pound for pound“ he is much better than the Cottos and Margaritos of the world. The real question is “is he 10-15 pounds better than they are?” because that's what separates them.
