If one thing can be taken from the fight it's that you can catch Margarito between punches because of the wide arc at which he throws. Margarito has an excellent beard though and you aren't going to get rid of him with one punch.
excellent? lol maybe at welter wieght but santos rocked magarito out of his socks lol cotto hits harder then santos and if magarito stil wants to block shots with his head then he will have his face changed.

What do you consider excellent? Ricardo Mayorga dropping his hands and saying give me your best shot? Or Jake Lamotta hanging on the ropes telling Robinson to give him his best shot in Raging Bull?

Mayorga has an excellent chin but I've seen him taken out a few times as well.

Boxers are humans too and if you get caught cleanly and flush, particularly in a counter situation as it is often with Margarito, you are going to be affected.

Margarito doesn't often get rocked by straight punches down the middle, the times I've seen him hurt is when he's coming in with his own punch and doesn't see the counter coming in return. In situations like that, can you blame him?

That was a horrible video in terms of showing how that fight went, but it has some interesting bits to be pulled from it anyway. Watching it, it is plain as day that Margarito was hurt in both the first and third rounds. It is fascinating to see how it manifests itself though. He doesn't really stagger or wobble. His punches just momentarily lose steam and the punches landing on him push him backwards. I've never seen a fighter react to being hurt like that.

I think Margarito's defense is porous at times, but if he had a bad chin he'd have been stopped a few times already. As it is, he hasn't yet been stopped.

It's the same with Pacquiao, someone called him "Manila Glass" because he was wobbled against Marquez. Yeah, but when was the last time he was knocked down?

I think some people misunderstand what makes someone's chin glass.

The same people that say margarito got hammered by a no-puncher are the same cotto fans that ignore you when you bring up cotto vs corley. Santos is a hell of alot bigger than corley and cotto damn near hyperextended his knee after that counter by corley. Had cotto dancing, wobbeling, grabbing on to corley, and even ended up huggin the ref when corley moved out the way.

why do people try to hate on a mexican who has done nothing but give the fans excitement?? only southpaws give margarito any real trouble. if santos was a righthander he would have got knocked out like the rest.

He struggled with Santos basically because Santos was much bigger than he was, and dare I say stronger, so he hasn't been up in weight since, but I don't think we can use this fight as a stick to beat Margarito with.

He was behind by more than that. I thought it was pretty obvious he lost this fight by at least 2 or three points.

Hardly an invincible performance from Tony, but not the disastrous, one-sided blowout all his haters make it out to be. A loss is a loss but this **** has 0 relevance to a fight against Miguel Cotto.

Who said anything about Cotto? Not me. He clearly lost and I don't get how you see otherwise. You're a fan of his I assume, and have no objectivity.

                    1. This was Margarito's first fight at 154. A bout he took because he couldn't get a major fight at 147.

                    2. He lost a technical split decision (ONE POINT!) in Santos' backyard - Puerto Rico. After nine rounds. On a cut.

                    3. Santos weighed in at 170 on fight night.

In this fight, Margarito's style worked against him. One, he's a slow starter yet is still aggressive early. Santos, in his prime, was a southpaw with a very difficult style. Sturdy, strong yet fought off his back foot. He just didn't have the temperament of a warrior. But Margarito, like he does to everyone, forced him to fight. And Santos - outweighing his opponent by a lot - showed some power that we just weren't used to seeing, rocking Margarito on a couple occasions.

What that video doesn't show is that despite losing the first few rounds, Margarito roared back down the stretch, stealing the momentum and coming on as his M.O. The ninth was a classic give and take round.

In the end, there's a good chance the fight would've gone down to the wire. But to knock Margarito for this is pretty dumb. There are a lot of Bernard Hopkins fights where he looked like might lose if you cut it off after a few rounds. Here's to hoping the fans on this site are a little smarter.

That statement makes no sense whatsoever.
