Santos destroying Margarito

Maragarito got robbed in the 2nd Santos fight. It was even after 6, and Tony was whoopin his ass after that until they stopped it. He shoulda been ahead but Santos got a hometown gift. It was a damn good shootout fight wit 2 way action. Hardly an invincible performance from Tony, but not the disastrous, one-sided blowout all his haters make it out to be. A loss is a loss but this **** has 0 relevance to a fight against Miguel Cotto.Comment

I don't put much relevance into this fight as I wouldn't judge the Cotto of today compared to his fights at 140. Both fighters are at their peak which is what we, as fans, should be hyped about. Yes, Cotto has a much better resume than Margo and I believe that his versatility will be the difference in dealing with Tony's straight forward attack.
I'm glad this video was posted cause I did see this fight - but didn't really pay attention to it cause didn't know too much about Margo at the time and I've always thought Santos was weak - Didn't realize that Tony switched southpaw.
That would be great to see Cotto and Margo switchin up at the same time to go at it!!!!Comment

When did boxing fans become so lazy? I encourage everyone who hasn't seen the fight to GET IT. It's actually a damn good fight. Just some background before I get into the fight itself:
1. This was Margarito's first fight at 154. A bout he took because he couldn't get a major fight at 147.
2. He lost a technical split decision (ONE POINT!) in Santos' backyard - Puerto Rico. After nine rounds. On a cut.
3. Santos weighed in at 170 on fight night.
In this fight, Margarito's style worked against him. One, he's a slow starter yet is still aggressive early. Santos, in his prime, was a southpaw with a very difficult style. Sturdy, strong yet fought off his back foot. He just didn't have the temperament of a warrior. But Margarito, like he does to everyone, forced him to fight. And Santos - outweighing his opponent by a lot - showed some power that we just weren't used to seeing, rocking Margarito on a couple occasions.
What that video doesn't show is that despite losing the first few rounds, Margarito roared back down the stretch, stealing the momentum and coming on as his M.O. The ninth was a classic give and take round.
In the end, there's a good chance the fight would've gone down to the wire. But to knock Margarito for this is pretty dumb. There are a lot of Bernard Hopkins fights where he looked like might lose if you cut it off after a few rounds. Here's to hoping the fans on this site are a little smarter.Last edited by IMDAZED; 05-27-2008, 09:04 AM.Comment

margarito only lost to biased puerto rican judges anyway. it was worse than hatton referee this weekend. margarito was on his way to victory and a knockout just like he will do to cotto.Comment
