    ..MONTIEL To Face MIJARES Next?...

Fernando 'Cochulito' Montiel (36-2-1, 27 KOs) will make the eighth defense of his WBO superfly belt on Saturday against Luis 'Titi' Maldonando (37-2-1, 28 KOs) in the Plaza de Toros "El Paseo" in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. A win Saturday could set up a unification clash with WBC/WBA champ Cristian Mijares later this year. "First I need to defeat my challenger Maldonado," said Montiel, a three-time world champion in the fly and superfly divisions who has had 17 world championship fights. "If there's no rematch with Travieso (Jorge Arce) and Mijares, I said to (promoter) Fernando Beltran to get me this fight against Cristian Mijares." 'Cochulito' says he's not looking past Maldonado. "In my mind is to beat Maldonado," he commented. "I must be very careful, he's very experienced." The two-time world title challenger Maldonado stated, "It's a great chance that is coming in a great tme. I know Montiel and he's a great champion, but the third time is the charm, and with our styles it will be a great fight. I'm becoming champion of the world."

What do you think of the match-up and who do you think would win.

It's a hard one to call. Two EXCITING fighters, one who relies more on boxing and one who relies more on power. And both have the attribute that they DON'T rely on, on top of that. GREAT fight.

It would be a great matchup best possible fight in the division, I think Mijares would be able to outbox him but for some reason some judges don't seem to like him. Younger fresher guy outboxes the older warrior to a 117-111 decision.

Ironically, both just beat The Ring magazines number one (Montiel beating Castillo) and number two (Mijares beating Munoz). So, this fight crowns a TRUE world champion, at JR. BANTAMWEIGHT.

This is the best fight this division will have from the past few years. Both boxers are great in my eyes, i'm thinking Mijares will sc**** a decision. Montiel will prove tricky, somebody you don't want to go to war with.

If Mijares sticks to boxing, he will win.

It would be a great technical fight, I wouldn't expect an all out war between the two but it would be great to watch from a technical standpoint. In the end, I think Mijares wins by close decision.

That's a VERY sick sig, man. Nonetheless, ElGranLuchador, name one system of belts/champions that works better than The Ring Magazine.
