Ricky Hatton vs. Paulie Malignaggi: Ricky Playing it Safe?

Background - Last Saturday's event in Manchester has set up a fall bout between Ricky Hatton, the biggest name at 140-pounds, and IBF junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi. The fight has been talked about since last year. Malignaggi was Hatton's backup plan if the Mayweather Jr. fight fell through. [details]

I agree with most of this.

but i also dont think it needs to be some type of PPV fight like paulie and hatton are hoping for...yeah the demand isnt high but its a fight that needs to happen in my opinion because you've got two of the best at 140 and a clear champ at 140 needs to be decided...

either by hatton winning and retaining his title of "140 champ" or by paulie winning and taking that title from him proving he's the new best at that weight.

I think a simple fight on HBO/SHO would be warranted but i dont think this matchup will EVER been demanded high enough to earn a PPV status.

I think it will be a close fight; a dog fight at points with all the holding and hitting...

i think it will go to a close decision...possibly either way...

Paulie by 11 TKO over Hatton,If he rocked Cotto that late I think he can definitely finish off Hatton who was rocked by Lazcano twice.

this would be another tom and jerry battle. paulie maybe too quick to be catch by ricky. but when the bell rings in the 12 rounds, it would be ricky winning over the ineffective paulie.

expect a running, hugging, boring fight.

That's a vivid imagination... In boxing anything is possible but IMO that is next to impossible.

That was a weight drained Cotto.

Hatton wins by UD, He will have trouble early on getting inside but as rounds go on it will become easier and easier and thats when the fight goes his way.

i reckon paulie will win a fairly competitive, but clear cut UD over hatton. hatton looks too sluggish and worn out nowadays from the continual effort of cutting 35+ pounds two or three times a year and the stoppage by floyd.i think paulie will be just too quick and fast handed for hatton. i also think hattons punch resistance has decreased significantly since the floyd bout, and i think the way he charges in wide open is just asking to get KTFO if he is up against a big puncher. if floyd was a big puncher he would have knocked hatton out in 2. i watched that fight 2 or 3 times and lost count of how many lead rights and counter hooks i saw floyd land on hattons face.

i would of thought floyd is and was quicker with the hand and foot then paulie would ever claim to be. also even tho both have got bad hands and are not known for there power punches floyd has more power and more pop in hes punches hence the higher ko ratio. paulie wont beat hatton never mind stop him. if ndou can get inside and rough him up hatton will do the job

I think Hatton will win by a decision although I wouldn't be surprised at all if Malignaggi manages to pull it off.
