The Versus commentators did a poor job

I thought the Versus commentators, Nick Charles and Wally Matthews, didn't do a very good job today.

Nick Charles was by far the worst of the two. He was unfairly negative about Hatton, and with almost every comment, he sounded like he doesn't like Ricky.

They are supposed to create interest in the people watching. Charles going on, over and over again, about how Lazcano was coming off a year of inactivity sounded like he was trying to lower the level of excitement and discredit Ricky's win!

Yet earlier, he had been quite positive about Paulie Malignaggi.

They were terrible in the Malignaggi-N'dou fight. I think they had it like 5-1 after 6 which was imo way off. No worse than 4-2 either way.

      I hAAAAAAAAAAAAAATe them.

Terrible chemistry first of all. They argue a lot. BORING ass arguments too.

And they are REDICULOUSLY over critical of the main event fighters and stuff.

I remember Josh Clottey won every minute of all 5 rounds of his KO performance, AND THEY STILL RAGGED on him the entire time.

You're right, they were not very good. I did notice that one guy was always hating on hatton but I loved how they kept talking about Paulies hair. Each time cracked me up.

Commentators have it tough when the fights they're covering suck. Both fights were kinda stale and it's understandable that they were sub-par in their commentary.

I thought they were trying very hard to raise the credibility of these two guys, Hatton and Malignaggi, fighting as some kind of superfight. I think one, Malignaggi is trying to find his way as a fighter still and hasn't been able to settle into himself as a professional. His last two fights have made him seem very vulnerable.

Hatton on the other hand looks to be a bit past his best but they wanted to make it sound like they had A1 products on their hands the whole night. I don't think they did.

They really did hit it home about Paulie's hair though. It was unprofessional.

They were actually fairly honest. Paulie and Hatton each put on rather boring/lame performances. I thought they were criticizing Paulie too...? Talking about how he was standing right in front; moving in straight lines; not working angles; and basically just not fighting a smart fight. I kind of liked the honesty about the fighters weak performance.

Chemistry between them is terrible though. they also dont offer any insight to boxing that an average fan doesnt already know. For example I really like when HBO gets a trainer (like Manny Steward) because he can give some info I would have never even thought of.

Remember it's Versus though... they dont have HBOPPV budget.

Nick Charles sounded like he was jealous of all the love Hatton receives in Manchester. In the past, he's always been a small-time operator, calling fights in places that seat a maximum of 500 people.
