He won't be beaten in the LWW division IMO unless he faces a puncher and gets caught. Perhaps someone like Torres could do the job but Torres isn't all that either.

The way Hatton takes punishment in his fights does mean that he should retire quite soon. Not right now but in a few years.

Those who believe he is shot, how much different does he look in this fight?
I actually think there is a large noticable difference. He is ALOT more aggressive and rushes forward giving Tzyzu NO time to think or time that big right hand, he avoid more of the punches but the most noticable thing is his chin in that fight IS SOLID, Kostya hit him with some BIG right hands and Hatton didn't even move.
Overall i think Hatton did well tonight and it must have built up some confidence his Stamina was improved and he was throwing alot but not as much as i have seen him throw in other fight and he lacked that killer instict when he did have Lazcano hurt.

Hatton took way too many shots, got hurt much more than he should've, and tired easily. Laczano is a concensus tomato can by Vegas and the promoters. Hatton was supposed to KTFO this guy. I like Hatton personally. But this is a fight that would have impressed me had it been between two up and comers on Friday Night Fights.

hatton made so many mistakes it wasnt even funny. i dont see how anyone can think he looked great. he was so open for that counter left hook, and he kept doing the same thing even after getting clocked with it. the announcers are such biased pricks that they would not say anythin negative about his perfprmance at all. the blind hatton fans will still think hes the real deal.

          Good, VERY strong fighter.

Hatton had Lazcano hurt a bunch of times, i dont remember the last time i saw Lazcano in trouble, and Harris is a big time puncher.

The Round 10 stuff was bull**** though. British announcers and refs are incredibly biased. I cant wait to hear the British commentary, they were probably rediculous.

And while i gave Lazcano 2 rounds, i dont think a shutout is at all rediculous. I mean the round he got hurt in, he came back and hurt Lazcano. And in round 8 when he was also shook up, he came back and hurt Lazcano twice more so...
          Good post and good thread!

          I completely agree.

I thought Nick Charles was unfairly negative about Hatton today, and so some observers may have been misled by that..

He did not give Lazcano much time to think either, most of the fight was spent in close.
Lazcano of course is a better inside fighter than Tszyu and had a lot more success at a close distance. Too bad Lazcano didn't have much stamina left in the tank.

Hatton's chin has always been solid and still is but he takes an accumulation of punishment in every fight because he leaves himself way too open when he comes in.
Eventually it was going to catch up to him and it did against a class fighter who took advantage of it perfectly, Floyd Mayweather.

The only diminished thing that I've noticed about Hatton is his stamina but he seemed to have a good amount of it left today. He still has handspeed and footspeed which will make him a tough opponent to beat.

I'm not saying he is at his best as a fighter but he is not much different from what he was 3-4 years ago.

Let's not forget, Lazcano was almost blown out early by Vivian Harris in his last fight 15 months ago. If not for Harris' 3 round gas tank, Lazcano could have been stopped early.

Hatton showed a lot of courage and desire, but he wasn't closing the distance as fast as he used to. He was coming in from too far out without a jab and was giving Lazcano the opportunity to time him.

Neither Malignaggi or Hatton looked good enough for me to want to see them in any kind of super fight.
Agreed. But putting them against each other in an HBO fight sure does make sense.

I think that both guys have problems of their own to figure out before the cash out from a boxing standpoint. For Malignaggi's sake I'm sure he wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity to make a 7-figure payday, especially when his hands aren't going to allow him to have too many fights. Besides Jerson Ravelo I've never seen a hand so badly disfigured.

Hatton might find Malignaggi's recent vulnerabilities attractive for him at this stage of his career. The fight might be off if Malignaggi broke his hand because he's going to need an extensive rehab, though I'm not sure what kind of recovery can be made for him at this stage of his career, taking into account how numerous his injuries have been.
