    you cant be this slow
The only way the WBC would/could allow that is to give Floyd an extension, because a champion from another sanctioning organization is considered a non-fighter by a rival sanctioning organization. IE Cotto is not ranked in the WBC, and therefore couldn't be a mandatory.

Clearly the WBC decided (for whatever reason) that Hatton was a more worthy WBC #1 contender than Andre Berto when Hatton expressed interest in jumping up to 147, which made it a mandatory defense.

However, if that is true, I don't know why Floyd is vacating his precious sea green belt that he has held since his days at 130.

Well, Hatton wasn't linked to any particular sanctioning body at the 147 pound weight class. Therefore, when he decided to move up, the WBC decided that he should be ranked in their #1 spot over Andre Berto, which make Floyd's defense against Hatton a mandatory defense.

Obviously there is a debate to be had over the motive of it. The WBC understands that Floyd generates a lot of money... more than Andre Berto clearly (who probably would have/will get the belt if/when Floyd vacates). There is also an argument to be had that Andre Berto hasn't done **** at 147, and Hatton's win over Luis Collazo makes him a more credible #1 than Berto for the WBC.

But still, even if Hatton should have been ranked higher than Berto at 147, that just tells me that they have Berto ranked WAY too high. Margarito has done more than him (and he didn't have a belt as of December 8th), so he could have been ranked higher than Berto.

This discussion just reminds me of how useless these ****ing organizations are.

Except for rank rival organizations. The worst thing sanctioning bodies have done is strip fighters when they try to unify (Margarito)... there should ALWAYS be an extension for unification.

gotcha. I dont think MArg was stripped though. Do you mean the IBF he just won? I think it was more voluntary so Clottey could fight for a title. He hadnt had it long enough to be "stripped", right?

Well the IBF title Cintron had wasn't defended against a mandatory in quite a while (unless Matthysse was... who knows?), but anyway, it was getting to be that time that he had to defend it or be stripped. I think anyway... I'm not 100% sure, but I can't imagine that Margarito would drop his newly won belt unless it was going to be stripped for choosing Cotto over Clottey.

This is a terrible stripping though. Does anyone recognize the winner of Clottey-Judah as a more credible IBF champion than the winner of Cotto-Margarito?

I hate this ****ing phrase, but the sanctioning organizations need some more plain and basic common sense.

When Tony beat Cintron for the IBF strap he took over his obligation to defend it against the IBF's mandatory, which is Clottey. I'm pretty sure he had to choose between making that defense or fightin Cotto for his WBA belt. When he took the Cotto fight I think he got stripped.
