He's fighting in a division where you can be the most dominant market force -- Jorge Arce, Vic Darchinyan -- and still not be able to get the other titlists off the pot. If Donaire were to sacrifice his IBF belt or do anything to jeopardize his position with that sanctioning body, he would lose any and all leverage he has.

Actually Donaire is the 112 lb champion, while the other two you mentioned are now fighting at 115. His solution may have to be to drop the belt and move up in weight. He used to fight at that weight anymore so it won't be that big of an adjustment. The guy has to earn some money while he is in his prime even if he has to give up that title.Comment

Gary Shaw needs to get his act together. Nonito is one of the better fighters at the lower weights yet his prime years are being ruined by mismanagement. As perviously mentioned, at Flyweight the big fights are to be found in Japan. I'd especially love to see a unification fight with Naito which would also be for the true lineage. I haven't seen any rumours of this fight taking place which is sad. At the moment, I just want to see Donaire fight whoever that be against so get him a fight Shaw.Comment

Donaire is in a similar situation. Longing for something to happen to further his career, but he can't get anything. Of course, he's not even able to stay as active as Arce and Darchinyan while both were at 112. Giving up his belt won't get him more money in Japan than he's getting in America, either.
Oh, and Daisuke Naito is the 112-pound champion. Donaire's a beltholder.Last edited by Mr. David; 05-23-2008, 05:56 PM.Comment

Scott, I mentioned these two because neither was able to get a shot at Pongsaklek Wonjongkam while both were at 112. Both Arce and Darchinyan carried considerable paydays with them, but instead they feasted on lesser opposition while the other beltholders stayed at home. Arce even had a fight signed with Wonjongkam, but the Thai never came to America. Arce defended an interim belt -- an interim belt! -- four times. During that time, Wonjongkam had six fights, including four title defenses.

Well sir your knowledge of the title lineage in those weight classes is clearly superior to mine.I would add however that Donaire's IBF title is worthless in Japan since they don't recognize those thieves. All that being said, I believe that Donaire is popular with the Showtime people because of his exciting win over Vic D, and that they're anxious to televise his fights again. I have heard about problems between Donaire's people and Gary Shaw, and it is plainly obvious that Shaw is the defacto booker of Showtime's matches now. Donaire could be caught in a bad luck situation.

Donaire has to move up first chance he gets. period. THE lineal champ Naito is going to fight Kameda (or Sakata is) and Kameda is worth enough $ to make unifying BC/BA possible but that's it unless Kameda's people decide to crash the U.S. and what the hell would they do that for with Kameda pulling 30-50 million viewers per fight?
Donaire-Mijares at 115 = FOTY 09
