What if he starts struggling like Castillo did at lightweight prior to the third Corrales fight and fails to make weight.

He has admitted that the fighters at 147 are too strong for him, even Floyd a former Super-featherweight. He would be stuck in boxing purgatory...Too weak for 147...too big to make 140.
He would be ****ed big time. He cant take the punch at 147 (and I like Ricky, just being honest.)

I think retirement would be the more likely option for him.

well hatton does have a penchant for food so i can def. see him not being able to make 140 any more.....its not like hes weak though, floyd just outsmarted him and its not like you come up against a smart boxer like floyd everyday........i could see him beating some of the weaker welterweight champs/contenders atm but the cream of the welters ie : margarito, cotto, floyd . would just punish/embarass him

oh ****s sake size isnt the be all and end all if you have decent enough boxing skills. (im talking about the pro ranks, with younger kids yes it does matter)

if you are skilled enough you can overcome such a disadvantage. (ie:mayweather vs de la hoya, mayweather vs baldomir) if hatton learned how to ****ing box instead of just charge and hug he'd be fine. mayweather often gives away weight in his fights nowadays, against de la hoya he gave away 10-12 lbs on fight night, and against hatton he gave away 7 lbs on fight night so thats not an excuse! roberto duran was hattons height and he was a natural lightweight but he still went up way above his weight to win titles at welter and middleweight, so my point is if hatton learned how to jab, move his head instead of eating punch after punch and maybe move around the ring (shock, horror) he'd be fine.

most preassure fighters styles are not conducive to going up in weight even the great ones like Duran ,J C Chavez

when u rely on your physical strength /power it is harder to win fights againt bigger stronger oponents

allthough i dont think the 147lbs limit should make much difference for Hatton TBH

You just laid it out yourself, his style won't let him be too effective against guys naturally bigger and stronger than him.

If Ricky Hatton were unable to make 140, his career would effectively be over, at least as an elite fighter.

If he cant do 140 then he's ****ed! He'd need to retire because he'd be nothing more than Fodder for those animals at WW!
