The sad thing is, he isn't.
I've never called Calzaghe, "Slappy", or any other derogatory term. I respect him as fighter.
I have no beef with Zags. **** I really don't have a beef with you, thread starter.

I just made a topic giving logical reasons why he would beat Hopkins Prime 4 Prime and all I get is a ton of bull **** replies calling me biased etc.

Some people gave decent answers but even then they stretched the truth (Hopkins has faster hands than Joe).

Joe Calzaghe is EASILY in the category of Toney, Hopkins and Roy and I think he is better than them, bar Roy.

Hopkins has never impressed me that much in his prime (and yes, I've watched his fight vs Johnson). He looked ruthless but Johnson hadn't fought anyone at the time and was coming in off a loss over Omar Shieka FFS (Calzaghe destroyed him in 5). Johnson only got good late in his career.

But they only discredit him because of jealousy and hate, not because of anything he's done or failed to do!

If he defeated Jones, Dawson, Taylor, Erdei, Tarver, Pavlik, Froch, Miranda and Bute in the next year, they would still say "he hasn't fought anybody"...

Like the old song goes "that's just the way it is...some things will never change".

What's really important is that we, his fans know what a great fighter he is!

I don't really see anyone not giving him credit. Most of the same people included myself who argue about Calzaghe's accomplishments or what he was capable of in his prime have him ranked in their current top 5 P4P, most in the 2-3 position. However, I and many others feel he is being overcredited with such claims that he could easily beat Hopkins in his prime or even Jones. That's saying A LOT.

It's not really saying as much as you think. Calzaghe is a fighter out of the very top drawer, I really wish that some of those who go in for looking at their favourite fighters game in a technical way would extend the same courtesy to Calzaghe for some of the fights he's had in his career. Against Kessler he was little short of amazing both offensively and defensively.

Hopkins, Jones and Toney have all lost to inferior fighters than Calzaghe so is it really so crazy to think that he could beat them. I think its crazier to think that he couldn't.
