Yea I dont know what method he used to lose the weight but it made him look sick and emaciated and that is not how you are supposed to look when you lose weight, chad dawson I think said it best that chris byrd was still fighting like a heavy weight, and I think what he meant was his reaction time was geared towards a heavyweights speed and reflexes when he should have been anticipating the speed and reflexes of a light heavyweight, unhealthy weight loss, and not anticipating that he would be in with faster, quicker, fighters led to his crushing defeat in my opinion.

If I remember what he said before the fight in the taped interview, he would go running and find that he would drop weight really fast, several pounds after a run. I think he also said that he only ate one meal a day instead of eating a lot... doesn't sound like the best idea to me.

Hopefully he hangs up the gloves, he's too nice a guy to keep getting beat up like that.

Chris Byrd's mistake was that he simply did not give his body time to acclimate to the new weight. He took this fight too soon after losing 40 lbs. This oversight likely cost him in the form of an early retirement.

exactly - he's taking his loss very well, but let's hope he just lets it go. He's a gracious loser, but no need to beat himself up over it so he gets depressed or gets back in the gym and gets hurt even worse next time...

                  Hindsite.

Bird was fun to watch when he made the slow heavyweights miss him.

I wish he would have never went all the way up to heavyweight at the start. He should have tried middle then light heavy. He never showed any real power at heavy and never showed any power after he came back down so its hard to say just how good he could have been.

All credit to Byrd for fighting as hard as he did and for manning up to his defeat. A lot of fighters would be looking for excuses left and right, but he had the guts to accept it like a man.
