I'm not saying that boxing is dead by any means but it is definately not the force it was in past years...
PPV's are doing lower numbers that they have before and espn almost wishes to pretend boxing doesn't exist anymore.

I think it is a shame that a bunch of rednecks rolling around in a cage gets as much if not more attention these days from the mainstream.

Boxing is bigger than ever in Europe. In the future if boxing doesn't pick up in the States, all the major fights will be held in Europe.

      Agreed

It's actually a bigger world sport then it ever was, people have a lot more access now then ever before.

Lets not forget that in the US Boxing is the Number 1 or 2 sport among Latin Americans, and Latin Americans are the biggest Minority with over 40 million strong and growing.

And actually last year HBO had it's biggest year ever in terms of PPV buys, Manny Pacquiao vs JMM was the biggest PPV selling fight ever for fighters under welterweight, and that was this year.

Plus these channels carry boxing here in the US

        Versus
        Fox Sports
        ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN Classic
        Showtime
        HBO
        Telefutura
        Telemundo

Boxing is doing better then ever, sure I'm sure in the 50's they had friday night fights on network TV but with the internet there has never been a time when you could watch as much boxing as now.

If you know how to look you can see cards from Germany and the UK on a consistent basis along with all the cards in the US.

It will hopefully one day. We need the heavyweight division to pick up and to generate more excitement. If all major fights are ever held in Europe Its will surely signal the end, this must not ever happen. Simply we need a good guy vs. bad guy scenario. Haye may increase the interest in Heavyweight if unify the division. Smaller weights will never really carry boxing.

I miss the days of Tyson Lewis Holyfield.

I know what you mean... Klitschko is really the only upside to the division. There are still a lot of channels that cover boxing but it's not on the center stage like it once was. I remember ESPN used to cover boxing a lot more than they do now, when Tyson and Roy Jones were big.
Last year was a very good year I will admit that, although Mayweather - DLH didn't deliver. Mayweather has the best chance to bring boxing into the limelight but a boring rematch with DLH that noone wants to see is not the answer.

I'm really not a fan of this UFC ****. I don't understand why it has become so popular. I thought it was great when Mayweather badmouthed UFC. Most of the guys are flabby and spend most of the match rolling around on the ground with each other, it is a pathetic alternative to boxing.

Why would all major fights being in Europe signal the end? I find that very ignorant and insulting. It's akin to saying about a fellow competitor, if they win it would be bad for the sport. LOL, who are you to say that on behalf of mass populations and for a sport?

You then go on to say Brit Haye doing well at HW would do some good, which I find in slight contradiction to your earlier statements. What so he has to turn his back on his homeland, Europe, and fight most fights in the US? What a negative attitude man sorry.
