Joe Calzaghe vs. Kelly Pavlik in The Works

understand joe fights in a style called the "dart move" its olympic style

boxing its where you hop on your toes and go forward, if your fighting

a fighter that throws one punch you hop back and counter all day.......

joe cannot fight going backwards joe goes forward on his toes and throws

alot of punches pavlik WILL knock joe calzaghe out because there is

no way in hell he backs pavlik up i think calzaghe is tailor made for

pavlik. pavlik is not 43 years old, pavlik hits harder than b hop, pavlik

also has way more stamina than b hop....AND THIS IS MO***ER ****IN

KELLY PAVLIK we talking bout, not no bum off the street calzaghe cant

hurt pavlik and he doesnt back up he just has ALOT of stamina he is

going to go forward and get hit HARD VERY HARD and will see how his chin

holds up against a real puncher.

BUT, he IS the bigger pull, especially in the states...

Pavlik vs. Calzaghe is the fight I want to see as Joe's final fight. If Joe wins he will go down as one of the p4p greatest IMO.

As for RJJ maybe Mogens Palle, manager of Mikkel Kessler, was right when he said that he is negotiating a fight between Jones and Kessler this fall. This would surely be a great fight albeit not the moneyspinner RJJ could look at fighting JoeC.

This is want Calzaghe needs, if he beats Jones everyone will say he waited 'till he was past it to come over and fight. He removed Lacy from boxing, beat a Hopkins that would never lose to a white boy and who beat Tarver easy. If Joe can get a win against Pavlik (who beat the new rockstar of boxing Taylor twice) also after that great win over Kessler then all the haters have to stop and in his era he is in the top five P4P no questions asked I think.

Calzaghe should not fight Pavlik.

He'll get absolutely no credit for the win because Pavlik is white, same as with the win over Kessler. People will say Pavlik was overrated.

Joe should instead fight Jones and Dawson as his last two fights.

I say Pavlik has a shot at winning.
Not much of a shot but he is one of the only fighters around who can keep up with Calzaghe's workrate. He has been put under the pressure and has not broken down under it thus far (then again Kessler also shined against an uneducated pressure fighter Andrade).

Calzaghe would bring in more tools, experience and size (although Pavlik is taller and has a longer reach) than any of Pavlik's other opponents though so it's safe to say that Pavlik should be a big underdog in this fight.

I have to say that I would rather see this fight in 2009 than right now, I would give Pavlik a better shot then if he has kept on improving and has won fights impressively against solid opposition (Abraham, Winky, Sturm, Mundine, Kessler, whoever there is to fight).

Calzaghe is getting older every day while Pavlik is getting better and better...
Perhaps one day Joe won't be able to keep up with the younger men anymore but we saw none of those signs in his fight against Kessler.
He did look bad against Hopkins but that's Hopkins.

i don't think that this is a good fight for pavlik, i think the experience factor is a HUGE difference between the two fighters. i think that as good as pavlik is, he plays right into the hands of calzaghe, coming forward, easy to hit, stays at a distance, easy to predict, it's one thing to fight jermain taylor who uses movement and has a decent jab, but it's a whole other world with clazaghe. pavliks defense is wide open for calzaghe, and calzaghe has fast ass hands, it would take perfect timing for pavlik to really off set calzaghe, which is extremely tought to do.
i don't like this fight for pavlik, not at this point in his career, like i've said before, pavlik needs about 3 or 4 world class level fights before stepping into the ring with calzaghe, i'm not saying that pavlik can't beat calzaghe, but in this match up, calzaghe would be a bigger favorite than he was against hopkins or kessler. even though i thought calzaghe lost against hopkins and looked like a amateur during the fight, pavlik is not even close to being a quarter as slick as hopkins with defense and using range. a one, two, punch combo isnt going to be enough to beat calzaghe. plodding forwards isnt going to beat clazaghe, staying in calzaghe's ranges isnt going to beat calzaghe, and these are things that i see pavlik doing that will be beneficial to calzaghe in the ring. pavlik needs more exeperience before fighting joe c............
