Cotto over Tito any day. U can't compare tito to cotto. Just cause he defended his title 15 times that dosent make him better. Cotto is a way better boxer than tito. Tito dosent even know how to move, he blocks all the punches with his face. He was just a hard hitter and if u went toe 2 toe with him u would get knocked out.

im a bigger fan of cotto than trinidad since cottos from my hometown of caguas, but right now trinidad has to be at 1 and cotto 2;but right after cotto beats margarito which theirs no doubt about that;cotto moves to #1ww,remember that most cottos fights were at jr welter, this is the final test to silence all haters and doubters, and 2 prove that hes the only man in the planet that should be in a ring with mayweather jr.

The best PR Welter would be Cotto if he dominates Margarito. He doesn't have to beat Mayweather to do that if he beats him he would best PR boxer ever but if he doesn't but look good he will be #1 considering Tito didn't looked good at all against De La Hoya.

Trinidad by far, better than Cotto.

The TOP Ruerto rican Welterweight HAS TO BE Felix Trinidad. He had fifteen SUCCESSFUL defences, including his Oscar fight which was also an IBF defence. Also he KO'd Blocker, the Champ for the title.

It isn't just the amount of defences, even though very impressive, but the WAY in which he won. Nearly all were early or middle round KO's or TKO's. Only 3 opponents went the distance with him, Hector Camacho, Pernell Whittaker, and Oscar DelaHoya. To beat master boxers Whittaker and Camacho the way he did, was little short of amazing. They were utterly overcome. Only Oscar made it close, by running like a hare.

He beat some VERY good fighters at their peaks, like Yory Boy Campas 56-0Oba Carr 32-0, and many others, [including-as he always roars-THREE (OLYMPIC) GOLD MEDALS]and except with Oscar, never remotely looked like losing until he was beaten by Hopkins, well down the road. His bravery and fearlessness, as well as his "take no prisoners" results, endeared him to the Puerto Rican People, rather like Manny P and the Philipinos.

So far, Cotto in my opinion, is not even close yet. His victories, although impressive, have to be taken in context, as well as the quality of opposition.
His only good Welterweight wins ( of 3 total) have been against Zab Judah and Shane Mosely, both WELL past their best, and, AT their best, in my opinion, fancied to beat him fairly well. Mosely was VERY close and could have gone either way.

In a matchup of Trinidad-Cotto at their peaks, I have NO doubt that Trinidad would mangle Cotto. Those who say that Trinidad had no defence are wrong. He had VERY good head and body movements and that lancing left hook which kept everyone well behaved. Just my opinion.

but i will say this; cotto has every oppertunity to take tito's spot on the top of 147 lb puerto rican fighters...

if he beats margarito (by a definitive UD; a close SD; or even a knockout in the first minute of the fight) he still doesnt move past tito in my book...

he'd have to do one of a few things...

                  either:

                  A) beat mayweather (if he does that and never wins another meaningful pro fight i'd put him above tito...especially seeing as how many view mayweather as unbeatable at 147)

                  B) beat everyone else in the division (ie. Williams, Clottey, Oscar...if they fight...and so on)...then he has a ARGUEMENT (not a shoe in...but a very decent arguement)

                  C) unifies the titles (only can happen if mayweather loses to oscar) then you have another decent arguement...

best way that i wouldnt dispute (and many others probably wouldn't either) is a win over mayweather.
And that win would be over a 30+ Floyd Mayweather which sums it up for Cotto. He will be fighting his third over 30 years consecutive fighter in Margarito. :S

Not only that, people have the image of Trinidad losing against B Hop, Winky, And Roy. At Welterweight, Trinidad flaws were invisible, until DLH fight. Cotto has good boxing skills, hes a Warrior, but Trinidad would KO Cotto, no doubt! And for Cotto to be THE BEST PR FIGHTER, i think he have a long road to achieve THAT. Wilfredo Gomez, 44 and 3 with 40 kos, 17 defenses ALL by KO. ASk HIM and he will tell you that Wilferdo was the best!

                      *************************************************

a couple points......first, sweet p was past his prime when he faced trinidad, hell he was on the downside of his career when he faced oscar. also, oscar was boxing the **** outta trinidad, and actually he "lost" the fight b/c he began to run. when he fought, he was winning.

the shane mosely-cotto fight was entertaining, but ut wasn't as close as you'd like to believe, it couldn't have "GONE EITHER WAY," cotto cleary won.

i'd give you that trinidad may have more overall power than cotto, but cotto is by far the more "well-rounded" boxer, he got snap on his **** too, plus he likes to go to the body. trinidad has problems with good "boxers," so if cotto went toe-to-toe, trinidad might come out on top, but if he was able to make adjustments like he did in the mosely fight, cotto would come away with the victory.

that being said, i like tito # q at welter-15 sucessful defenses etc., etc., he didn't lose a fight until he moved up to middleweight...........but cotto has the potential to have the same type of career, and like i said, he's the better overall fighter, so i guess time will tell whether or not he continues to live up to his hype, and a win over margarito is another step in the right direction.
