The myth about sugar ray robinson perfect left hook
Collapse

He was moving back but when he threw the punch, It looked like he stepped forward.
Excellently timed hook though.Comment

Naturally, he had to stop and set his feet to punch. But his momentum was going backwards up until he let the punch go. It was almost a half uppercut that caught Fullmer under the chin.Comment

Besides the punch being pretty compact, Ray set it up pretty nicely. Two right hooks to the body, and then BAM..............he never expected the left hook up top.Comment

Step back blind wth the lead hand throw the right to the body get out, again let him come to u, step back blind with the lead hand, throw the right to the body then out, 3rd time u let him come in what does he expect? a right to the body, what does Ray throw? feint with the lead hand then throw THE BEST LEFT HOOK EVER THROWN! U out sucka!Comment

I'm with you when you say it wasn't perfect, I've never thought so either. The best left hook I've ever seen landed was Frazier on Ali, round 15 MSG.
Having said that, this is up there, look at all the factors, Robinson was ageing, moving backwards, had enough pop and speed to catch him and drop him for the count. That's special.Comment
