The myth about sugar ray robinson perfect left hook

Was it a truely perfect left hook? it looked more of a desperation left hook to me but it was a very gd left hook.
Reason i ask if because you get alot of left hookers like david tua, castilo and diego corrales etc.. but they have never been called perfect left hooks.
So what was so special about ray robinsons left hook? granted it was very powerful because he koed the guy.

That was a very short left hook and he was moving backwards at the same time, he timed that hook to perfection. It was also the only time Fullmer was knocked out, he had a very good chin.

One of the best left hooks I've ever seen.

If you are referencing the Fullmer knockout, what made it so remarkable was that Robinson had started in the lightweight division and was able to knock out a middleweight champion while going backwards.

It was the perfect knockout on a man with an anvil for a chin. It was also remarkable because Robinson had just lost to Fullmer and was a decided underdog that many felt was well past his prime.

hmm does going backwards make a difference of how much power u can generate? or is it jus awkward?

You don't generate nearly as much power on your punches while moving backwards.

Think about it. In your signature it says that you box. Can you generate as much power stepping back and punching as you do moving forward? Of course not, because your momentum is going away from the target. If your momentum is going towards the target, the impact is significantly more substantial.

Not just going backwards, he threw it from the hip.

The timing, accuracy, speed, power, everything went into effect. Fullmer's chin was granite, and Robinson was going backwards and still KOd him.
