Honestly, I think Calzaghe has left it too late in the day to be universally respected by the US audience. He is past his prime and spent his best years fighting way below his true potential. We will never know what a prime JC (one that could still **** with his punches) could do against a prime RJJ. The Hopkins fight was just an ugly spectacle and certainly not a showcase for what JC is capable of. Styles make fights at the end of the day. A convincing win over Pavlik is the only fight I think that would guarantee JC more credibility than he current enjoys Stateside.

The 'what if he was black' argument is just banal.

Now my question is if Joe was African American (I say African American because everybody knows American athletes are not available in white) Do you think he would be considered a great? do you think ppl would still be saying hopkins won the fight?

I think if Joe was white and American they would be calling him the greatest to ever put on a pair of gloves.

in short, America wish Joe was theirs.

Wrong. I'd actually hate him a bit if he was American. Lol. He'd have had even MORE chances to fight more worthy names, and still managed to get to that task WAY late in his career.

As a U.K. fighter, you can say that he feared getting ripped off in a foreign country, (and rightfully so) and therefore, chose not to fight here until it was the last leg of his career. So, the thread is completely ass wrong.
