British boxing is actually quite excellent for a tiny little island. I hate Hatton, but Calzaghe is a P4P elite. That is obvious. David Haye is still a question mark, but he is by far their most "much watch" boxer because of his antics and the fact that almost all of his fights will end in KO one way or the other guaranteed. They've got Froch and Witter on tonight as well. Also, for a guy with 17 fights, Amir Khan is being matched very strongly. Few have been matched stronger.
I grant you that it seems like England does protect its fighters for a bit longer than we do here in the states, but I don't think the difference is as wide as you're perceiving. It was just that way with their two biggest stars. Lennox Lewis certainly wasn't protected, for example.
