Is British Boxing a Joke?

British boxing is actually quite excellent for a tiny little island. I hate Hatton, but Calzaghe is a P4P elite. That is obvious. David Haye is still a question mark, but he is by far their most "much watch" boxer because of his antics and the fact that almost all of his fights will end in KO one way or the other guaranteed. They've got Froch and Witter on tonight as well. Also, for a guy with 17 fights, Amir Khan is being matched very strongly. Few have been matched stronger.

I grant you that it seems like England does protect its fighters for a bit longer than we do here in the states, but I don't think the difference is as wide as you're perceiving. It was just that way with their two biggest stars. Lennox Lewis certainly wasn't protected, for example.

Maybe I'll shut up about it when you guys finally come up with a world class fighter who wasn't fed handpicked opponents throughout his career. Amir Khan is just next link in a long chain of British fighters who have cherry picked their way up the rankings...

Say what you will about Froch being overrated (I'll agree with you), but the man is not a coward. He had Inkin pull out twice, Berrio pull out and then Williams pull out. This bum was the best left who'd take the fight at such short notice.

For your information: Lewis was born and raised in Britain and what does parentage matter at all anyway?
