It was a straight left hand that had a slight looping arc to it. Wasn't a hook.

Stop lying to yourself... That's like saying "oh he ran into that punch", "no, not really he actually walked into with a slight hop"

You know, I think in general it is a mistake to write someone off IMMEDIATELY after a loss like this...or to say a guy is chinless because he got stopped like that....just because a guy gets drilled it doesnt mean he cant take a punch, etc. Plenty of guys suffered bad losses and still came back like gangbusters...Tery Norris and Marlon Starling are two very good examples...Joe Louis is another...Foreman is yet another. Is Mike Oliver capable of coming back from this? I don't know. But I certainly wouldn't say NO based simply on what happened last night, you know? If it was that easy to break guys and their careers and potential down we wouldnt even need them to fight more than once in their entire careers.

One way or the other, if he is to do good or to flop ....we'll see when the time comes (and only then)

It was a surprise...the punch, a big LEFT hand came so suddenly....anything can happen in a ring, I know that going in but man.... When Mike went down it was so crazy, it was almost like I thought he tripped or something. Surreal. After the first round, though, I was telling him that the guy was trying to sneak him, sucker him for the straight left hand. It was pretty clear to me...he was throw slower puncher, wider punches, range finders. Then WHIP, he would drop one in real fast. He missed mike with it in the first round but it was clear what his strategy was. I warned him three times between the first and second round and once more before the third.... The way Lopez suddenly moved to his left and got a bit out of Mike's range of vision before dropping that last shot was the result of a very, very smart and calculated move. He executed it very well, gotta' hand it to him on that one. Now we'll see what Mike-Mike is made of in his heart and character, etc.

It seemed to me that the ref was going to let the fight continue because he was the house fighter and undefeated, but he second guessed himself and just stopped the fight.

Oliver never even saw the punch coming because as you said, Lopez was throwing punches from wider angles and had Oliver looking for the wide punches. Then when he dropped that left hand, it was all over.

Unless im losing my memory, im like 99.5% sure Oliver beat Stark. Im actually 100% sure. Oliver beat Stark by a decision. I remember because i was pulling for Stark in that fight. Oliver is a good fighter. He just needs to learn from the defeat and keep on keepin on.

The whole Stark/Oliver thing is pretty strange.

Two up and coming, undefeated 122 pounders face off in a virtually even, somewhat controversial fight. Stark then goes on to lose to someone he had no business losing to by way of 1 punch KO. Oliver suffers the same fate almost 1 year later. Stark got some revenge against his guy later on, maybe Mike will come back and beat Lopez some time this year.

Then we could see Stark/Oliver II at the end of 2008. How bout it Ice?

right on. i'd like to see that fight, too. i give stark jr. a lot of respect for getting back in there with the guy who put him to sleep, and doing enough to beat him.
