Bore Hard vs. The Blow - I bet that caused some rucks on here, didn't it?

At that point, both guys were so sloppy that I had a hard time keeping track of what was landing and what wasn't from both guys. How I scored the rounds was by asking myself, "Whose punches were closer and sharper." I knew Calzaghe's end of the exchanges were crisper and that he was dictating the pace.
Hopkins slowing the action by complaining about borderline blows was a sign that he needed a breather, of course. He was moving a lot and wasn't stopping to throw for long stretches, so he was uncomfortable with the pace that the fight was being fought at. Still, you have to assume that the referee is still maintaining control and that he was justified in giving Hopkins that time to rest.
More than anything else, I think Calzaghe beat Hopkins with energy. Clean effective punching was absent from both guys for the majority of the fight.Comment
