Pressure fighter? Skilled boxer? It seems like more and more people are starting to believe that a skillful boxer is the type that would give Floyd more trouble. What is a good set of skills against Floyd? A stiff jab? A good left hook? Someone with orthodox skills? or more of an unconventional fighter?
What type of fighter is best against Floyd?

The best punch you can utilize against Mayweather is a sharp, snapping jab right in his chest to keep him defensive and off balance.
A fighter who has that type of jab and applies educated pressure mixed with a bit of counter punching would have the best success with Mayweather IMO. -

I believe there is no one style that can beat floyd.Pressure fighter? Skilled boxer? It seems like more and more people are starting to believe that a skillful boxer is the type that would give Floyd more trouble. What is a good set of skills against Floyd? A stiff jab? in reality ANY style can beat and style; mattering on the skill level of the fighters and how well one imposes their style on the other and so on.
I think to beat floyd you can't be one dimensional...you dont have to be outstanding in any certain category but you have to be at least good in a wide range of categories because floyd adapts well and makes adjustments so his opponent must also be able to make adjustments to give floyd a loss.
you cant go in there and just expect to **** away at mayweather and get a win...nor can you expect to just simply out box him...
floyd is generally faster than about 90% of all his opponents and his defense is superior to a good 85% of all his opponents. floyd's reflexes are still top notch. So what do you do to a fight like floyd to win?
you exploit the weaknesses he has...
Floyd doesnt like being attacked to the body (at all) and doesnt defense against it well (see the Castillo/mayweather fight).
Jose Luis Castillo focused on mainly nothing but the body...and it was working...floyd would get slower as the fight goes on because attacks to the body hurt more (than head shots) and it sucks the stamina out of you...not to mention even the softest punching boxer can score a knockdown on a body punch thats placed correctly.
Secondly; pick up where oscar picked up; work off the jab...
face it; if you dont have a good jab you arent going to have much chance at beating floyd...floyd is a terrific boxer who has all the talent a fighter (currently) can have...you might not be able to outbox him but dont expect to get in close to flurry if you have no jab...he will make you pay if you dont use a jab (see the hatton fight).
i believe trying to be quick like mayweather (and chase him around the ring) is also not the answer (see the de la hoya fight) all it does is tire you out but you dont accomplish much...counterpunching and timing will beat mayweather no matter how fast he is.
so basic points:
Work the body
A good jab
keep the tempo of the fight up (floyd likes to fight slow)
beat floyds punch output
counterpunching and timing (to offset mayweather's speed).
doing those things will give you a MUCH better chance at beating mayweather.Comment

I think that Mayweather's defense for bodyshots has improved since the Castillo fight and is very good now.
I also think Mayweather fights at a slow pace because he wants to, not because he has to, and that he can up his workrate if he really wanted to.
But a fighter definitely has to be versatile if he wants to beat Mayweather.Comment

word, in order to beat floyd you need to be a good, strong counterpuncher, and have power. I think if a good fighter with alot of boxing skill, and power, with good counterpunching abilitly gets in the ring with floyd he can beat him.I believe there is no one style that can beat floyd.

you guys dont realise exactly how verstile you have to be to beat floyd , like man i would like to see him beat but this is a guy who rarely comes out of second gear in his fights...................and still has only lost on one scorecard ever.............against castillo and a few early fights are the only incidences of floyd stepping up his game to thr max i can remeberComment
