You might think that, but go back and look at the photos, his thighs are huge and muscular. I am surprised every time I see him fight. The rest of his legs are like tooth pics as is the rest of his body, but his thighs are like BAM!Comment

You beat me to it. I was gonna bring up the baseball comparison as well. I've seen guys with skinny legs throw the **** out of the ball because they have the right mechanics and use their lower body well. Its not the be all end all in power punching but it does play a major role.
When you punch (WITHOUT using the torque) in your lower body your punches dont pack as much power.
thats why you dont see many fighters get dazed with punches when the opponent landing the punches doesnt have his feet set or is back pedaling.
You power doesnt come soley from your arms.
Its similar to pitching in baseball...
When pitchers throw the ball they step into the pitch with their front foot...
pitchers rely a great deal on their lower body.
If a pitcher were to NOT use his lower body he would be injured from the amount of pressure they are putting on their arm/upper body...using the lower body for the torque takes pressure off of your shoulder/arm and allows you to pitch at a higher velocity.
Same for boxing...you can puch using ONLY your upper body but for power you want to set your feet and step into your punch using your lower body for majority of the power.
its not the be all end all to power in your punches but it helps.
hope that helps.Comment

yup its a shame the guy couldn't handle the pressure I mean what young man can its extremely tough...some of the few guys who handled the pressure well was sugar ray leonard and Oscar Delahoya...but I remember Breland in that lords of discipline and they were building him up to be the next big thing in boxing and praising his amateur career. I would of loved to see him live up to his expectations.Comment

Indeed. Many of the best punchers have had skinny legs. Hearns, Jackson being just two. Rubin Carter was a very strong puncher. KO'd Emille Griffith in round one and was the only guy to do that and he had stick-like legs. Tito had skinny legs and was a strong puncher etc. Body type doesn't really come into it. It is more how they use their body and waist and just natural power.Comment
