I thought the fight was very entertaining 1000X better the Slappy vs Popkins, Oscar actually showed some fire and threw some combinations that have not been seen for years. I liked the fact he was on his toes bouncing around, If he fights like this his rematch with Mayweather will be much better IMO. Not saying he will win or Ko Mayweather but it will be alot more interesting thats for sure.
This thread seems to over look the problem that Oscar was an 18-1 favorite.

That Forbes couldn't even win the welter weight contender tournament (147 POUNDS). That Forbes has never fought at 150 POUNDS and only has 9 KOS in 33 fights in his real weight class of 130 POUNDS. And the weigh-in was 36 hours before the fight effectively allowing Oscar enought time to rehydrate back up to almost 170 POUNDS. So, here we have Oscar fighting a much smaller man with an average win/loss record of 3-3 at ww who can't punch.

And you clowns want to get on here and say that Oscar looked good ? That he didn't get gassed and controlled the fight? GTFOH....

Personally, I think De La Hoya was caught up the concept of fighting a Mayweather clone. I don't think he was prepared for Steve Forbes to come out of his shell as much as he did and fight aggressively. Oscar has fought alot of smaller guys and they tend to be much more careful and conservative than Steve Forbes was. The look of surprise on Oscar's face when Forbes unloaded with both hands and caught him clean and hard early in the fight said everything. Forbes was going for broke and it shocked De La Hoya.

I still need to see the tape because I was there with plenty of distractions, but all in all both guys were impressive at different points. Forbes laid it on the line as much as he could as the smaller, outgunned, hand picked opponent, and De La Hoya's jab and combinations looked sensational at different times. Oscar's jab was the highlight of the fight. It was deadly.

Oh, and De La Hoya was pacing himself too much. There was at least one moment I recall when Oscar could have stopped Forbes in the mid rounds if he had the confidence/actual stamina to flurry for 10 or 15 more seconds. Instead Oscar pulled back and he was clearly sucking air. He couldn't do what was required in the situation. His stamina was good late because he conserved throughout.

yes maybe he was too weight drained? im still not sure if the low weight its good or bad for de la hoya at his age going to 147 doesnt seem healthy to me
funny how before the first "world awaits" oscar looked like a beast destroying mayorga hes probably gonna be a 3 to 1 underdog now in the rematch

Oscar said himself recently that he has a mental problem when it comes to his stamina. He doesn't trust himself, he fears he won't have any gas left in the later rounds. Possibly because of the Trinidad situation..

What that translates into is some extra needless thought during the course of a fight - which translates into other things. Basic mismanagement and confusion happens when you get too cerebral in the ring.

In the case here against Forbes, Oscar was using up too much gas early so when the opportunity and interval came to stop Forbes at mid; he didn't have the extra wind because of his doubt and curve of physical limitations.
