at the most cotto willl manage to slow him down but tony its not gonna get koed
just look at the shots he took from cintron who according to boxing scene is the hardest puncher on the welterweight division
he didnt even feel the punches and just kept pressing forward

these is how i see the fight playing out:

the first rounds marg will start slow and dont go all out cotto is gona use his jab to keep margarito at a distance on those rounds eventually margarito is gonna land a good punch and its gonna start throwing those wild uppercuts
    2 things can happen here:

if cotto here tries to counter hes gonna get overwhelmed because margarito will keep throwing no matter what cotto connects and thats the chance margarito has to score a ko if he catches cotto against the ropes

if cotto clinches and goes backward and keeps using his jab and landing the usual combination he will get the decision

u know what u get when u fight margarito a pressure fighter who keeps coming forward no matter what u throw at him and can ko u easily if he overwhelms u against the ropes
now cotto power will not be a factor on this fight his speed is because if he uses it right hes gonna have a huge advantage over the slow margarito

the interrogant on the fight its whats gonna happen when margarito gets close to cotto will he try to counter and be overwhelmed or will he use his advantage in speed to make margarito miss?
good post and if Cotto loses I agree that it'll play out what you've laid out - Tony's pressure, Cotto's fatigue, and a resulting mistake that Margo will capitalize on. I'm a Cotto fan but do respect Margo as a tough SOB and latino warrior, however, a couple of things that factor into the fight:

Cotto doesn't freak out when he's on the ropes - in fact, he's very skilled fighting off them, but Cotto needs to make Margo miss, stick him, and move away.

Cotto doesn't have the one punch right hand power and leverage that Cintron has - Cintron is not in the discussion when it comes to a body/inside attack - Cotto is devastating (so is Margo) but with speed, power and accuracy.

Cotto can't win just by jabbing and backing up the whole 12 - he's gonna have to dictate the distance with his jab - get in attack the body and get out, and use his speed - that has to happen throughout the fight. For me, Cotto's hand speed, versatility, and smarts - like you said, it's not secret what Margo is going to do. So the big question is, will Cotto have the solution? Versatility is Cotto's key to victory. Margo only has a plan A - what if it doesn't work?

This is gonna be a great fight.

you made the smartest point in this entire thread when you said "Versatility is Cotto's key to victory". Using the jab picking his spots, hammering Margarito's body and boxing along with good movement will all be keys to Cotto winning this fight. If Cotto makes the mistake of thinking he can brawl with Tony he will be making a big mistake.

yeah cotto has improved a lot the past year if the fight was made last year i woulda bet all my points on margarito but after seeing him handle mosley i realized hes not just a brawler who depends on wearing his opponents down he can also box really well so now i have some doubts on the fight
id like to see if cotto can land his jab or will the reach difference be too much
cotto is still for a long night margarito its the superior natural welter in terms of size and u can never count him out

Margo's tenacity, stamina, and constant attack is going to make this is great, and tough fight no doubt. Downside for Margo is the height/reach won't be too much of a factor cause he fights small - doesn't' use his reach to his advantage - he likes it close so Cotto will have many opportunities to jab away. Gonna be a war
