I will say this I think Golden 24k Johnson is the best adapter, the way he adapted to breathing with air in the beginning of the fight to breathing by suckin the air cells in his blood that was flowing from the broken everything he had after Tony was done was down right legendary
Clearly the second Castillo fight went a lot better for Floyd because of his shoulder being healthy primarily.

The shoulder didn't fix his movement off the ropes though. The Judah thing was somewhat impressive too, but Floyd's accuracy (that he always relies on) is the reason he was able to be effective coming forward, especially against someone like Judah, who is not opposed to backing up in fights.

If he backed Antonio Margarito up or something like that, then I might have to give him an A+ for adaptability and change my vote.

Of course. I just get a little defensive after 100 posts and a few drinks.

i vote PBF he just has so many things he can do in there and he does so many small things in a fight its really amazing.

Look at what he did in his last 2 fights alone.

First he can do the shoulder roll defense and let opponent tire himself.

Second he'll counter you as you come in and then tie you up.

Third, he'll hold his ground and box with a guy mixing up counters and leading off.

Fourth, he'll use a high guard and walk you down with jabs to stomach and lead rights.

Just look at who was the better inside fighter when he fought Hatton a career inside fighter. Hatton didn't land anything worthy of a mention but even inside PBF was landing cleaner and more punches.

Against a counter puncher and very fast boxer, PBF was able to outbox him. PBF has also done it at a higher level of competition for the most part.

Also at his more natural 135-140lbs PBF could throw very nice fluid combinations but with the bigger more dangerous fighters at these higher weights he is more defensive minded. I'm sure Calz would pick his shots more carefully too if he was fighting at cruiserweight.

Mayweather, easily. Say what you will about him, his ring intelligence is unparalleled among active fighters.

I'd say Mayweather, but I can understand why people would vote for Calzaghe.

Wouldn't ring intelligence make it so you don't have to make adjustments in the first place?

An adjustment (or adaptation, for the sake of using the thread title's buzzword) comes when a fighter is losing/getting his ass kicked, and needs to change the bout to something that will be in his favor.

Floyd's ring intelligence against Ricky Hatton made it so he didn't have to make an adjustment.

Calzaghe's lack of ring intelligence (I am only talking about this instance, calm the **** down) allowed him to get put on his ass by leaving his face open for a Hopkins right hand. He needed to adapt from that.
