Here's 5 that EASILY rank higher than Joe on the ATG's list:
    Ray Robinson
    Henry Armstrong
    Ali
    Joe Louis
    Willie Pepp
noone in the top 5 on the current p4p rankings is a top 5 or even top 10 all-time great! this sport has seen some beast! Joe is for sure the best SMW over the last decade! thats 'bout it!

that was a different era, weaker competition
now days we have much more advanced fighting techniques
don't you believe in progress? or do you choose to get stuck with the past?

RJJ - Winning by TKO in 6th. (RJJ is not himself anymore. If you saw him in the Hanshaw fight, where he struggled to beat the 15th ranked guy at SMW you will understand). This type of open fight suits Calzaghe.

Pavlik - Another open fight suiting Calzaghe big time. A stoppage in the 8th round, after 8 one sided rounds. The difference in power between MW and SMW seems a lot. And Calzaghe is a lot quicker than Pavlik and seems willing to exchange.

Tarver - The most difficult fight out of the three. Tarvers style and ring smarts pose problems for Calzaghe. Tarver is up on the cards after 4 rounds. Calzaghe adjusts in style similar to Kessler. Calzaghe wins by UD of 2-3 rounds.

Conclusion: Obviously America thinks Calzaghe is crap, because of his performance against B-Hop, in which he wasn't at his best. But in open fights against RJJ and Pavlik i give him little chance of loosing.

Pavlik does not have any where near the skill range to challenge Calzaghe. And in saying that, the current RJJ who has no stamina does not either. Tarver poses a serious threat, and that will be his last defining fight.

        So ATG top 5?
No, top 20 yes, top 5 no way, if you think so please name the only 4 fighters ever that are better - not being a smart ass just curious as to your opinions.

If these 3 fights were to happen and the results are as you guess, what does it prove, a big win over Pavlik i would pay, but according to most Rjj is washed up so beating hin at 40 means nothing, same for tarver, he's last on your list so he would be 41-42 by the time it happens.

I like Joe and think he's a great fighter but if 3 of his last 4 opponents have a combined age of roughly 125 no matter what their names it doesnt look as good as wins over prime Lacy, Kessler and possibly Pavlik.

On the other hand, if he lost one or all these figths where would you then rank him?

Obviously you have other like minded individuals on this board but why don't you come up with something new. Every regular on this board knows how you feel about JC and knows that you'll more or less post the same nutriding, can't see any negatives type of post about your hero. Pathetic.
Pathetic is you. You haven't done any fckn research on what i post about what so ever.

A ****ty generalization. With no evidence to back it up.

            Enough said..

For Joe Calzaghe to be an top 5 ATG, he must beat the following fighters:

              RJJ
              Pavlik
              Tarver
              Johnson
              Dawson
              Haye
              Klitschko
              Superman (no kryptonite allowed)

Its interesting that an undefeated fighter can't climb any higher than the top 5 on the ATG list.

Even if he beats 3 massive names.

I think Floyd faces the same dilemma.

Some boxing fans have the top 5 pencilled in for a hundred years to come.

Weaker competition? Some of those guys were fighting top competition 2 or 3 times a month. In 2004 Joe fought twice, against Mger Mkrtchian (can I buy a vowel?) and Kabary Salem. Calzaghe is an outstanding fighter, but it is a ****ing insult to compare him to Ray Robinson, Willie Pep, or Henry Armstrong. Top 50? Maybe. Top 5? Not even close.
