Calzaghe was NOT in his prime between 2002 and 2004

you have to take into account WHO he fought to get those 1st round KOs though. off the top of my head, the only meaningful early KOs he got were over Mitchell(pretty impressive), Veit and Sobot? other than that, I cant remember anyone that great. Cause its kind of deal with Tyrone Brunson, I think he set the record for consecutive 1st round KOs, but hes fought absolute bums.
either way, I dont think early KOs necessarily tells you when a fighters prime isComment

Yeah, wasn't Veit 30-0 for the first, then 45-1 or something for the second? I'm not sure of the exact figures without checking Boxrec but it was something like that. Indeed, he was more experienced a further 15 fights into his career. He still hasn't lost to any except Calzaghe, I believe.I agree with this, Veit had fought nothing but bums leading up to the first fight with Calzaghe. Veit was still nothing amazing, but more experienced of a fighter in the second fight.
the most hilarious thing was the commentary in that fight. he seemed amazed that Veit made it out of the first round, haha. I think it was that Europsort bloke. that guy is just hilarious, ahahhaa
listen to this bastard, ahahah! best commentary ever! for those who get Eurosport, could you tell me if he still does commentary for them?
Joe had a £10,000 bet on himself the second fight to KO Veit in the first round again, apparently,

not sure, all I remember was that Veit in the second fight was coming off a win over Charles Brewer, although the commentary were saying Brewer was a little past his best. still was by far the biggest win over Veit's career, unless Im forgetting someone.Yeah, wasn't Veit 30-0 for the first, then 45-1 or something for the second? and I guess he had gotten over the divorce pretty quick then if he was making bets like that, heheComment

He's not in his prime anymore. He can't punch hard for one thing. Improved in other areas though.Comment

Does losing your punch make you automatically past your best? Thats the only thing that has went down, and thats because his hand are fragile. Not because hes old or anything. He has not showed any signs of slowing down or any wear and tear. His boxing skills are a lot better now then when he was fighting back in the early 90s- early 2000s. The brave Calzaghe that punched harder back then would have probably lost to Lacy and Kessler because his foot speed wasn't as good back then and he relied more on his punching power. Now he is more of a slick boxer that throws volume punches, back then he was a boxer puncher that was more vulnerable.Comment
