Tommy Hearns is underrated!

the hell are you talkin about? It was announced a draw anyway, and Leonard himself, you know the one that was fighting Hearns...admitted that he lost the fight. he got dropped twice in the fight, and even though I give him credit for hurting Hearns at times in the fight there is no way in hell that Leonard won that fight.
Its not even like I dislike Leonard or particularly like Hearns, thats just the way it was. JC Chavez is one of my favorite fighters, but he clearly lost 116-112 to Whitaker. its just one of those universally recongnized 'robberies' that everyone can agree on, like Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield...
Youve seen the fight right? Who did you have winning?Comment

Funny how you said he "beat" Sugar Ray Leonard in their second bout.
I thought Tommy got him too though...
Hearns was a freak of nature though. One of my favorite boxers of all-time and a very nice guy in real life. His powerful, effective right hand gets so much attention, but he also had an excellent flicking jab and left hook to complement that dynamite right. He carried that power all the way up with him too. Good example being him crushing Andrew Maynard, the Ray Leonard product with a right hand in the first round.
Hearns had great wins and some great action fights. He left it all in the ring, like all great fighters have. I'll always remember him for his wars with Hagler and Roldan, his crushing victories over tough guys like Cuevas and Duran, and his boxer/puncher showcases against Hill and Benitez.Comment

Hearns was a tremendous puncher at 147 and 154. He lost power as he moved up after that. If there is one thing Hearns was underrated at, it was his boxing skills. Absolutely nobody ever outboxed him at any weight.Comment

Yeah, a testament to his ability and physical advantages. When he was on his toes, flicking that long jab, using the right hand upstairs and down he was awesome to watch.
I'd say Hearns carried his power with him about as well as anyone. He was knocking out fairly tough middleweights and light heavyweights. The one that sticks out in my mind the most is the single right hand which knocked out James "Black Gold" Shuler(RIP). Shuler had a tragic life. Still that was one hell of a right hand bomb landed by Tommy.Comment
