Double Standard when it comes to "clinching"

That article is complete crap. Nobody that I know lauds Bernard Hopkins' hugging/clinching style. What they laud is Hopkins' boxing IQ and underrated boxing abilities.

Nobody clinches more than RICKY HATTON. Yet, I rarely hear nary a voice complaining about his style.

you want to know, ask the Hopkins fans how they feel about his style of fighting, then ask them how they feel about Ruiz style, to me there is no difference a foul is a foul holding is holding period, but to them Hopkins does it with Skill

there is no boxing skill in holding, period. Its just clever. Like Ali's rope-a-dope...when it got down to hit, Ali's defence was ok along the ropes, but in the end he was still getting hit with a ton of punches and wasnt doing anything incredibly skillful...but it was smart, and he knew it tired out his opponent.

Ruiz is just as clever as Hopkins, and Im dead serious. hes not as good at fouling and getting away with it, but Ruiz is way less skilled than Hopkins, and still is a major player in the heavyweight division somehow, with wins over Valuev and McCline, and gave a close fight against Chagaev.

The difference is that hopkins adapted that type of gameplan after he got into his 40's to compensate for his aging body and conserving energy. He was never a clincher until recently against Calzaghe and Winky. Prior to that he was not an excessive clincher. Whereas Ruiz has pretty much been like that most of his career.

Hopkins was a much, much, MUCH more exciting fighter back in the day. Or even just 5-6 years ago.

And I consider myself a bit of an expert on Hopkins fights since I've seen nearly every one of them. There is a HUGE difference from the fighter that fought Calzaghe compared to his younger days.

excessive clinching is all he could do against winky and calzaghe if not he would of been dominated in those fights.trinidad and delahoya were smaller men than bernard and roy is not a come forward fighter if you watch the fight with eastman there is alot of clinching going on in that fight

the same Reason hopkins has fans, look man holding is holding period a foul is a foul period it dont matter if its Hatton, or Hopkins both do it and its wrong.
